And throw an old Electric bar heater in there for good measure.

Are you mad, every LCD or especially plasma throws out much more heat than most CRTs

Are you mad,

Clearly, but I don't think that's relevant right now...

I guess all my TFTs must be super efficient and all my CRTs must be very inefficient... It does seem odd that the Laptop CRT never really took off give how little power they use and how cool running they are... :-?

:-D Yes I'm in one of those moods..

Interesting so how do LCDs produce more heat with half the power?  Do they have some sort of perpetual motion machine in them?  At work we had a lab that was all CRTs, about 20 or so, the air conditioning was running all the time, even during the middle of winter, we replaced them with LCDs and the AC only runs in the summer.  AND the electric bill dropped to about 40% of the pre-lcd days.

They principle advantage of CRTs are in the dark greys and blacks, the principle disadvantages are power (and heat), size and weight.  You pays your money you takes your choices.  Since I pay the elctric bill in my house and since I don't watch all that much black on my TV or computer  the choice is pretty obvious!

To recap the heat comes from the power, the more electricity you draw the more heat you produce.

It is perfectly possible to produce more heat with less power if more power is converted to heat in the low powered device than in the high powered device. I'm not saying this is necessarily the case with LCD screens, but to say "do they have a perpetual motion machine" as an argument for them necessarily not giving off more heat than a different device is illogical.

Just read a test of 40-42" TV sets.
Panasonic plasma did use 370 W max, LCD sets from 90 to 270 W on daylight settings; the smallest figure for evening settings was for a Sony, just 32 W. A huge variation! My old 32" tube did use probably 120 W.

does anyone knows a cheap way, don't care if it take ages, to ship a big high volume order (maybe around 80x80x80 cm) from the UK to other place in the EU, that weights around 100Kg ?

Forget about parcel services, and try a regular groupage transport company. I worked at DFDS Transport (they're also in the UK) for a few years and we quite often shipped small private shipments (1 or more boxes, a single pallet - sizes like that). Just phone around to any international groupage transport company (Eddie Stobart is a big one in the UK - I see them in Holland quite often too)...
