Me. I know it's fashionable and all that to have a flat panel TV nowadays, but I still prefer the picture of a good CRT over an LCD, and even most plasmas costing ten times as much. If you have the space, why not use a CRT if it makes your viewing experience more pleasurable?

Me. I had a TFT for use with my Amiga, but scandoubled screens looked like crap because the resolution was so far below the screen's native resolution. The scaled image looked awful. Swapped for a CRT and the picture quality was a lot better.

For SD-resolutions and scaling, nothing beats a CRT. If only they had more HD capable CRTs here in Europe I would not hesitate to buy one. LCD/Plasmas are looking really good in Full HD resolutions though. Contrast is getting better every year and so is color gradients as well. Don't see that much banding anymore.

It was a KV36HQ100B for almost nothing (100£) :-o

Beats out the crap of practically any current LCD/Plasma in black level.
On the other hand, the new Panasonic line is coming out as we speak and new models are said have came up almost on par with Pioneers Kuru line, which is probably the only one with black levels like a good CRT but the price is huge.

Still, all these things, no matter how good they are, will show a pretty poor image with standard definition sources.

The shipping company would work it out at 1000Kg per megagram so it costs you more. Everybody else would use 1024Kg per megagram and then complain that the shipping companies aren't being honest about the weight of their packages ;-)

Two things I don't understand....

Unless your telly has lead shielding I don't see how it can be 100Kg! My Sony WEGA 32" weighs about 35-40Kg. It definitely didn't weigh 100Kg because it only took two of us to load it onto the stand. If it had been 100Kg, that'd have been 50Kg each and I couldn't lift that that far, I'm sure. Why do you think it's 100Kg?

Secondly, what's all this about TFTs not doing SD signals well? I was running my A1200 on my Sony 40W3000 (40" TFT) and not only was the picture signal fantastically clear (perhaps a little too clear as it showed up every pixel) but also it scandoubled the A1200's interlaced output so the picture was solid even in PAL High-Res laced. Very handy!

It depends on the TFT screen's native resolution, and how it handles non-native resolutions. The cheap screen I had used 1024x768 as its native resolution. The Amiga's scandoubled output was much lower than this, and the scaling/stretching of the TFT screen made the picture look horrible. Other screens may do a better job, but I wasn't prepared to mess about finding one which would do the job when I knew a CRT would do just fine.

Makes sense.

But in that case surely your complaint is against a cheap telly, not TFT per se.

Don't want people to think that TFT tellies can't do Amiga signals well because they can. You just need a decent one. But if you get a good one (like mine) you do indeed get a scandoubled solid 40" PAL screen.

Are you mad, every LCD or especially plasma throws out much more heat than most CRTs
