Argh! Vista and taskeng.exe
« on: May 01, 2008, 08:39:48 AM »
Is anyone who is running Windows Vista having problems with taskeng.exe running on their systems?  The program seems to be running twice and is really slowing down my system.  I have googled and read "solutions", but they don't seem to work.  I have tried to disable it via my firewall but it still runs.

At times it takes up as much as 70% of my computer's resources .  Is anyone who is running Vista experiencing similar problems?

I'd appreciate any help... thanks.

You might notice this is an Amiga site NOT a Windows Vista support site.
Please post Vista related question on the Vista support site, not here! Thank you and have a nice day!

Darth,

I posted this in the  alternate OSes forum.  I run Winuae and I also have an Amiga 500 w/Bodega Bay, Derringer 030/40 and other goodies.  I was hoping that others here could help me out.  I've had an Amiga since 1987 and find the support here invaluable.  If I am out of line, I apologize.

You are not out of line by posting that in the right area like you did. Admitting that you have Vista is the first step on the road to recovery. ;-)

@weirdami

Lol!  Yes, if my Amiga 500 arrangement was a bit more powerful I wouldn't have the need for this windoze system.  You know this Vista mess runs about 68 programs after boot up... it's such a shame.

Have you upgraded to service pack 1?

It solved some of my speed related problems on this slow-ass OS

While Ali speaks in jest... This for me would be the only serious solution to the Vista problem. Or just wait for Windows7...

I completely agree on this. Not a chance you'd get me to leave XP and switch to Vista. Not at the moment anyhow. I know many people who have down-graded to XP after installing Vista.

The problem is I bought this laptop with winblows Vista installed.  I was Amiga only for a while and skipped the XP OS.  I guess the question is would Microsoft let me downgrade to XP even though I do not own XP.

Hmm, probably not. You'd have to buy XP I'm guessing, unless the people you bought the Laptop from are nice enough to let you swap. Or you could go buy an OEM version of XP until Vista comes up to scratch. Would only be about $120.

who is the laptop maker and how long ago did you buy it? i had a dell and hated vista as it was so slow? i bought some more ram. still slow. i got in early and complained. dell offered me xp. they now offer it on some laptops. but the lappy was still slow with xp so i returned it.
