Cartridge Based Game Consoles

 Do you think that cartridge based game consoles are still popular?
 I liked the NeoGeo and would like to build a console similar to it.

Are you talking about designing your own system?  If so, you should just use the MiniMig, and call the SD memory a "cartridge".  This would give you a cartridge based game console with specs almost identical to a NeoGeo.  If you want a more "cartridgy" feel, then replace the SD cards with Compact Flash.

i think cartridge consoles were great as there was no loading time so you got straight into the game.

For a while I wondered if it was possible to add a cart slot to a normal Amiga and then somehow make the games boot off a rom of some sort. Never had a good hard look at it though.

i think sd or cf devices are the new cartridge based systems. no load time on emu games for psp/ gp2x cards.

i've got 2 of them. i sold the best one and 50 games. took up way too much space. and a pain to set up especially as some tv's display them badly. to think "all" that fits on one sd card!!!

Making a notebook out of the Minimig might be a good hack and I think it is very possible.

Whip Rush on the Sega Megadrive is still my all time favourite game. I can now also play it on the Amiga using AmiGenerator 8-)

(Whip Rush is like T-Zer0 but it appears that no-one else has ever heard of it :lol:)

I wondered what it would be like to put a cartridge port on the A500. The NeoGeo had up to 330 megabits at least. (40 Megabytes is 320 mbits)
