blizzard 2060 card brought non working
« on: April 30, 2008, 12:29:17 AM »
hi l brought one these cards as non working .
havebeen told its been in to be repaired and still not working.

apprently it arrived from germany with the 060 cpu around the wrong way , and since the previous owner sent replacment 060 cpu though a 66mhz version and still no luck with the card working.

my qwestion is l brought cheap 060 cpu of ebay
MC68LC060RC66 do l need to get the timing chip changed to 66mhz one or is it safe to just plug it in .
l know the standred 2060 whould have 50 mhz timing crystall

also read up this card goes in the cpu slot, if as chould well be the case the board is had it. Can it be used a ram board i  am (thinking not) or use the scsi side of things

id think the board whould have to be all working to be of any use, also whould the fact the cpu was put in the wrong way have cuased the board to be damaged behond repair.

the guy am buying of offered me a 040 cpu l whouldint think 040 whould work in this card .

anyways am new to cards  for the amiga 2000
so any informtaion whould be cool.

ps this will be my last post on my blizzard ppc card
alas l have had to sell it for getting my psx3 back
aghh its sad ...l had since new, l never thought it come to this.. bugger.

The new chip should pop right in. It'll end up being underclocked, not a bad thing. It's an LC model, though, so there probably won't be an FPU or MMU. An 040 can be fitted if the CPU voltage is changed to 5V from 3.3V. If the 2060 is anything like the MK3/PPC, there should be a solder pad jumper to do this.

I thought 060 chips were keyed to only physically fit one way, so if the current chip has been forced in, there could be physical as well as electrical damage.

The board almost certainly won't work as just a SCSI/RAM board if the CPU is fried. The machine will probably just refuse to boot.

And you're dumping a PPC board in favor of a PlayStation? I think you'll end up being on the losing side of that deal. PS3s will be available for years to come with prices continually falling. Blizzard PPCs won't.

As Matt_H said, it will work fine at 50MHz. (Being an "LC" part may cause issues, though.) Switching to an '040 requires some soldering skills, nothing too difficult, but if the card works I'd stick with a (full) '060.
