Well I guess that means you just can't update the
firmware. Which is a real shame, because that means
you can't install a paloma or concierto (if you want
to), because they need firmware 7.4.

yup, I think you're right... oh well, most importantly the card itself works

What you also could try is to remove your cyberstormppc
and try to update the flash then (if you have a replacement
accelerator card). Just read in a piv-faq that piv.resource
1.6 had problems with cyberstorm scsi module and updating
the firmware solved it. So updating from 1.6 is definately
possible.

ah, that's probably the reason alas I don't have the original 3640 board that came with the computer so I won't be able to try it out

The faq does not talk about Cyberstorm PPC, but Cyberstorm
+ scsi module (computer hangs etc). But it's definately
worth a try if you ever get a 3640 (they are very cheap on
ebay).
