game loading with difficulties
« on: April 25, 2008, 09:20:08 AM »
Haya everyone,

I have a question:
I have a Amiga 1200, HD inside, Blizzard Phase IV with 64MB Ram and a SCSI device with a second HD.

Recently I changed the ROM chips with 40.68 (I believe), well at least I have "updated" the ROM chips.

When I try Pinball (not whd-load), the game starts normal, but when I shoot the ball, the game blocks...
First I thought: This game is broken.
But I can play it on my A500 and on a 'normal' A1200 with HD without any problems.mmmmm

Can it be, that the chips sucks  :getmad:
Can it be, the Blizzard effects the game?
Or the SCSI?

any sim. problem known?

Frisby :-?

the good thing about amiga's is you can usually use trial and error to solve problems.

Try taking the blizzard out and see if it works
if not try taking the SCSI out
then try both out

Its probably the blizzard that will be causing the problem

For instance 030 processors data cache may be the culprit - you can switch it off.

Try "cpu nocache" in a shell, load pinball and see what happens. Or, you can shut the caches off in the early bootmenu.

The ROM chips definetely must be 40.68 and not 40.69. :-D

Second, try to press the 2 mouse buttons at the reboot to enter the Early Startup Menu. From there you can choose Original Chipset (OCS, ECS, Enhanced=AGA) or Disable CPU Caches. Try them with this game.

I don't think that Blizzard can cause problems. At least with me I haven't any problems with it. At the reboot you can disable the Blizzard by pressing the button "2" (If I remember correctly). Then your Amiga will have the onboard 020.

:madashell:

Hai, here are the results.

I have ANOTHER A1200 which works fine with the games. It has a 4mb expand board inside, so I can handle it all.

Thanks for the suggestions.
This Forum starts to work for me

I will be back!

Maybe it's the accelerator the game doesn't like. Why don't you try the WHDLoad version of the game? In the end that's even easier than loading from floppy.

Bedankt Flashlab,

But then I need to have the WHD version:madashell:

There are just some games I want/need to play:ak47:  :juggler:  :ponder: , no matter how they work, installable or constantly change the floppy's.
