Commodore about to go under.. again!

Commodore International is close to folding. The Dutch company that owns the brand was declared bankrupt this week, but a spokesman said it will appeal the court order.

I was actually looking at some of the handheld products they had a while ago, but it was unable to figure out where the heck to order...

Maybe someone with a retro-scope on the world could pick up the IP this time and do it properly, then wait for amiga inc to shrivle up and die.

Agreed. No one who owns these companies, Commodore, Amiga, seem to have any common sense!!!! Or any idea of what people want from the brands.

I wouldn't be surprised if the patents on the commodore 64 are up already. Anything Amiga, I don't know, but those Tulip folks don't own any Amiga anything anyway. Once all the patents run out, the retro folks can jump in and make Amiga clones and then upgrade it however they want. Then again, software copyrights will last so much longer, so what you'll need is a freeware replacement for the Amiga OS like how Linux did to UNIX. I'm guessing that since the Commodore 64 OS is on the chips that it's all under patent as opposed to being copyrighted software. But, maybe it's not because it's really a software kind of deal, philosophically. Erg! Golly jee, my head hurts.

My feeling always has been that Amiga Technologies, under Petro, were actually heading in the right direction, pulling the right things out. Unfortunately Escom didn't survive long enough for them to make something looking like a profit.

True, at least Escom gave us some nice clean A1200s with 3.1 and A4000T's...

Even if Amiga Inc just made some more it would be better than the crap they are making now. At least we would have "new" hardware which could last some more years

Those Tulip folks don't own anything commodore they sold it.

In 2004, Tulip sold the Commodore name to another Dutch firm, Yeahronimo.

Apple should buy Amiga Inc.
