Yesterday I missed out on an A3000 on ebay...

It was located only a 15 min. drive away, looked to be in good condition and alongside the A2000 I bought from Xamiche was something completely beyond my reach when it was new and I was much younger.
The winning bidder bid more than I did... in the last 30 seconds  :-D

Tough luck really, I would have gladly won it the same way but I can't help think that there has to be a better way of pursuing this hobby/obsession ...

Don't bother, I got some gear via a wanted ad in the local free ads, got loads of gear at the price I thought was worth paying rather then the ones on eBay. That's how I got my tower.

I tried the local paper route here in WA when I first started collecting, but I only ever found Amiga 500s. There just isn't enough equipment out there in my local. I hope it's better on the east coast, but you have to remember the Amigas, beyond the stock standard 500, are uncommon to rare here in Australia. The only guy still selling Amiga stuff here on the west coast is that Amiga Innovations guy, and he charges like a wounded bull. Quite frankly ebays prices are cheaper than his prices.

If I see a 3000 in good nick around Marcb I'll let you know, but the chances aren't good. In all my years of Amiga collecting I've never seen a single 3000 for sale here.

Vast majority I found through online classified like craigslist is the Amiga 500.  One time at the same time there was a Amiga 1200 for sale and in another ad Amiga 3000 for sale, both had a CD Burner, network card and a harddrive with 3.1 already installed but I was unemployed and poor at the time, now that I have money I've never seen anything like that for sale locally.

If you bid what you are willing to pay, not the lowest possible bid at the time, then the 30 minutes won't matter.    I know the early bid strategy isn't as popular as sniping, but it's saved me tons of money on impulse bids over the years (and, it's not like the snipers EVER got anything cheaper than my highest offer so...)

I agree. I'm an early bidder too. I figure out what I'm willing to pay and place a bid for that amount. If it gets over-bid, then I'm out. Impulse bidding is bad news.

I got 7 A500's, 2 A600's, 1 A1200, 1 A1200T and loads of cables, disks, books, VHS's, you name it. It's worth a go at-least. I havn't ever had a call from any A#000 series owners.

Thanks, I did a completed listing search on Ebay for the 3000 and it came up with 0 results so I guess it is rare!

Yeah, that's the sensible thing to do, I always start out that way (setting myself a limit) but 9 times out of 10 I exceed my limit... on this ocassion the 3000 went for A$125 over what I was originally prepared to pay..

That's exactly what I meant, I now can afford to buy one (at a reasonable price) but it's still out of reach!

I was thinking we need something in OZ that's a bit more gentlemanly a la Amibay...

Check the thrift stores (second hand stores that sell for charities) in your area. I found an A2000 with kb and monitor for $5 a couple of years ago. They also get tons of the TI-99 and C-64 stuff.

I had my eye on that and the Broken A3000 board which went for $142 btw...... I bought my A3000 from the USA cost me US$285 BUT spent US$480 in Shipping...  :getmad: (since i wanted a A3000 to finish off my collection (well that what i tell my wife anyway..... ;-) ) massive clean happening to it now as well as fixing the battery leak... (just can't win).
Anyway eBay prices are just going to keep going up and up. I have tried the ad and pawn shop route but all i got was A500 (bare systems).
I would really like a CDTV to finsih off my collection and maybe a A3000 and A4000. (OH hell just give me them ALL I'll get a new house and put everything there... :-D  (proof that as collectors one can NEVER STOP.....)
