Realized I have a Zorro II expansion bus on my A1000
« on: April 15, 2008, 08:47:14 PM »
I always wondered about this big sidecar I have for my A1000. I thought the inside was just memory card slots but no. It's one of these: :-o

SubSystem 1000 & 500
Company: Pacific Peripherals, USA
Date: 1987
Amiga: A1000, A500
Interface: side expansion port

    * Zorro II expansion chassis 2× (SubSystem 500) or 3× (SubSystem 1000) Zorro II slots with DMA support
    * 1× 3.5" drive bay for an optional 2nd floppy drive
    * external power supply
    * connects to the side expansion port
    * fits under the Amiga

    * optional RAM card - The Advantage 64 DIP sockets accept up to 2 MB RAM
    * supports 0.5, 1 or 2 MB configurations
    * uses 256k×1 DIPs
    * zero wait states

I have the 2 MB Advantage card inside. But I don't have the external power supply. Hmmm. Anybody know anything about this thing or the power requirements?

All the A1000 expansions are Zorro II, at least electrically :)  The diff between I & II is the form factor, rectangular vs. square. So you must have one of the rectangular ones!

Well, no. It is a big square box, but I'll be posting pics here and for the hardware sites. They want some pics, there was only one I found and it was bad.

I think this one was for the a500 now. It has only 2 slots, not like the 3 supposedly for the A1000.

I'll post back here soon.

No. It's rectangular (the card form-factor.)  The only Zorro I expansion chasis is the Pal and Pal JR

If it was for the A500 it would mount on the left side of the computer.

Couldn't you get the pictures any smaller? :lol: I only have a 22" widescreen monitor connected to the pc with a resolution of 1680x1050 and they wouldn't even fit on that ... Perhaps I should go out to the shops tomorrow and purchase something like
this to view them on? :lol:

Haha Zorro I goodness.

Rare, but useless.

The slots are electrically compatible with Zorro II, as was mentioned above, but of course they don't fit very well if you plug in a normal full length card.

Check the volts and grounds first with a multimeter, I seem to remember that the Zorro II cards have their end brackets facing the user when you plug them in.. Not 100% certain, so please check before plugging in anything.
