Blank mainboard video: will PCI work?
« on: April 13, 2008, 07:38:55 PM »
Hi all,

On my recently resurected (with a WarpEngine) A4000D, the native video went blank. I can hear the usual disk accesses while the machine boots up, but no video.

I found a corroded U350 (8520), cleaned it up best i could, but still no video.

So instead of replacing the motherboard, i was thinking of upgrading it with Mediator:

Are those PCI videocards able to pass through the native video modes? If not, how is that set-up used, for example when one wants to play old games? With a 2nd monitor?

Any advice welcome,
Claude

No. They only display RTG screenmodes. Native modes don't go via the graphics card on the Mediator (or Zorro slot).

Yes, or with a graphics card which supports passthrough, like the CV64, or with a scandoubler with a VGA switch. If you think the video output is dead then you could try a video slot scandoubler.

Ok, thanx for the clear answer.

Now i shall find out if there still *is* a native video mode left to pass through.

The question is why did i fail ? Do you have a multimeter ?
I recently got an US shielded rev 6.2 a2000 with faulty RGB output.
I took off the shield and checked the tracks.
I found a cutted/half burned track and a dead fuse F5  (4 Amp). I rebuild the track with a wire, and pickup the fuse of the serial port...

PS : I'm looking for these little green fuses..
AmigaCenter can also help you, just send the motherboard
Keep the Faith !

I also repair drives of our old beloved Amiga

The RGB port fuse is rated 100mA in any Amiga.

It is located near the RGB out in any Amiga, too.

Verify carefully for broken traces/resistors and you're done.
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.
