upgrade BPPC?
« on: April 11, 2008, 07:15:22 PM »
I was just wondering for no reason if you can upgrade and BPPC card from say a 160mhz to a 240mhz without overclocking? I know you can upgrade the 040 to a 060 but how does it work with the ppc processor!
Specs:
A1200PT, mediator c/w voodoo 3 2000, sb128, 60G HDD,OS3.9,LITEON CDR, nec 4x4 changer,External Scan Doubler,Cocolino adapter,PS2 keyboard adaptor.

Morphos 2.6, mini mac g4 @ 1.25ghz.

Would probably work with a flash of the firmware.

"Would probably work with a flash of the firmware."

erm, nope! we are speaking Amiga here! theres nothing in the BPPC/CSPPC flash, clocking related. All the job is made in hardware (multiplier/new quartz and such)

No way! Only if you dessolder (not that difficult) the original BGA CPU and then solder a new, faster BGA CPU (that is very difficult)!:headwall:
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.

I meant WITH changing the cpu!

Not only that..with a pc you can update the flash bios to take faster cpu's that were not supported before...so why flaw the logic?

It's not a job I'd try myself but I was wondering if it could been done! theres alot of talented people with an solder iron on this board! So maybe its another option for people that find there 160/175/200 lack without going to the hassle of overclocking the boards. So would it still be a major pain if you had all the skills involved?

real specialists that can change 240 pins of flat pack chips can do the job.
On the Grex List someone, got 1 rework with a 300 Mhz CPu on his BPPC.
Keep the Faith !
VG 5000/A1000/500/500+/600/2000/CDTV/1200PPC-GREX/1200PPC -ATEO-BV/4060D/CD32/Aone/Peg 1/Peg2 G4/ various funny machines too  :-) http://www.mo5.com/collection/index.php?pseudo=CLS2086
I also repair drives of our old beloved Amiga

You would need specialist tools to desolder the BGA CPU from the board... And specialist tools to solder a new one on there... a quick wiki for BGA electronics will explain why!

Great link, I'd hate to have to do that... imagine trying to solder a new chip in place!?

There is a thread on the A1k.org forums about someone that had his BPPC upgraded to a 275mhz CPU and it is working so it can be done for a price. I'll see if I can find the posts about it.
