I got it working! It didnt like MuFastRom and MuFastZero,
taking them out of my user startup fixed it.

As for OWB its slow but the rendering engine appears to
be robust. However as there is no keyboard input I've
only tried it by clicking through the links on the google
home page.

So far so good.

Other notes:

-It does not need a full Geek Gadgets environment as specified in the Readme (I have just ixemul and ixnet installed), though there are some SnoopDos hits to files in etc:. No noticeable effect on their absence.
-With 96MB of RAM free, I pointed OWB to Amiga.org and was left with about 70MB free
-Comparable to the first release of OWB for OS4 in terms of functionality.
-Acceptable speed on an 060/50, but far, far slower than IBrowse or AWeb.

Good first step. Hope to see it improved.

Good news!
When i first saw the thread, i thought that someone requested a 68k port. From what i read about the OS4 version, it is getting better and faster in every new update. As counterzero said, let's hope that the SDL dependencies will be removed eventually. This will make it much quicker and less memory hungry.

@ countzero

You can pass it any URL as a commandline argument.
Code: [Select]
1.Ram Disk:> owb http://www.amiga.org

There's also a --height and a --width parameter.

mmm..
i have contacted owb author and he told me that OWB was impossible to port on 68k, because his source was for os4 SDL only.
But, this news is very greatest!!!

Starts here -- but all I get is a white screen (no matter what I put for url).

I'd like to try this -- any ideas?

Figured it out -- OWB wants the older versions of the ixnet & ixemul libraries (v48) -- whereas, I had v49.17 installed.

Wow!  It almost works! :-)

Mine has frozen up after loading amiga.org.  Maybe my stack isn't big enough?  I ran it from the shell.

The colours are wrong, but it looks nice.

Good start!

Edit:  OK, I ran it again with more stack, and it's working. I specified "--depth 24" and the colours look good.  It defaulted to "--depth 32" before.  It follows links.  It scrolls with the scrollwheel on my mouse!  It's pretty slow, though. :-)

I'm really happy about this.

I very much hope that Jörg will enhance the 68k Version like he did for his OS4 builds.
With Navigation bars, scrollbars and some speed up this browser should become real nice.

Would it make sense to allow more people to help Jörg in some way?
I'm not sure if Jörg needs or wants more help.
But if the source gets put on a cvs server like source forge maybe this would make it easier for more people to contribute to this?

Cheers
Gunnar

Has anyone tried to run it under WinUAE ??
All it does for me is display a white window.
I have ixemul & ixnet libraries version 48.0 and plenty of RAM; also bsdsocket.library emulation is selected in winuae settings.

To make it work under winuae, I made a directory with the
amitcp demo files from aminet in it. I then assigned AMITCP: to that directory.
After doing this, OWB showed the google page on startup.
Edit: You have to do this, because OWB looks for some files
from the AMITCP package. There is no need to really install
AMITCP, and you still have to use bsdsocket emulation.
Just copy the installation files to the dummy directory.
