Battery replacement

HI,

I was wondering whether anyone has bought this:

It says it is a pcb mounted battery, not sure if there would be soldering still required?

 This is a lithium cell (not rechargeable!), intended to be soldered in boards who don't have the space for a CR2032 socket.

 For old Amigas with rechargeable cells, you need:

 a) A 1N60 diode to avoid the charging circuit (else the battery will explode);

 b) Any 3.6V, 30mA NiCd battery to replace the old one. Just remember: those battery will leak after its normal lifetime, destroying the board under it.

Hiya, I can't speak for this particular one but I bought something similair from CPC and it was solder mounted.

You should really remove your old one by de-soldering anyway. Also the Amigakit one doesn't say if it's rechargable  :angry:

I've just done my 2000D with this and I'm going to do my 2 * 500+ and my 4000D as well.

Thanks guys,

The problem is that I don't trust myself with a soldering iron anywhere near a motherboard  :-)

Haven't got the new 2000 yet but I know that the battery has been removed, was just hoping I'd have an easy (lazy) replacement!

The 2000 has plenty of room around the battery area to get an iron in easy once you've stripped it down to the bare board.

Resurrecting and old thread... I've been thinking about using the ML-2032 batteries on my upcoming board fixes rather than the CR-2032.  Did you do yours, and how has it worked out if you did?

I was not aware those came in a rechargeable form!  Though the CR2032 coin batteries last for years and years.  I figure a couple dollars every 5+ years isn't bad.  I've already done the work on my motherboard, but I have the one with the diode.  Amigakit has this one http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=724 that doesn't look like it has the diode.  I had ordered one, but rather screwed it up when I was trying to solder it in.  Guess it's a good thing too, because it probably would have tried to charge my non-rechargeable battery...

I used an ML2032 on my Apollo 1240 turbo card, see photo below:

I can't tell you any more than that though (I tested it for 4 weeks and it kept perfect time) because I dismantled the machine and stored it away and haven't used the card since!
My Apollo 1260 doesn't have a battery in yet, although I did remove the old leaking battery last year... I wish I had more time for my Amiga's!!!!

I ordered a bunch of these. The no-charge diode is already installed, so it's a direct drop-in replacement for the original battery - soldering required, of course. Working great in my 2000, but they're actually very tall so I'd probably need to trim the legs to get it into a 3000 or 4000 and still be able to fit a Zorro card into the bottom slot.
