Problems installing Linux on A4000
« on: March 24, 2008, 05:52:36 PM »
Hi folks,

I'm trying to install Linux from GNU Linux Debian (Woody) 3.0R2 M68K Amiga CD.

The 4000 is an unexpanded  DT with 68040 FPU + MMU and 16M ram
(+ 2M fast Ram)running OS3.5. connected to a Amiga M1438S multisync monitor in DBLPAL:High Res mode.

When I try to run the install program from the CD by double clicking the "StartInstall" icon I can see some lines of code which appear to be the program confirming details of the HW then a grey screen followed by a black screen and some white text (debugging info I think) and then a message which just keeps looping which reads :-
" bog1:don't know screen type1"

Only way out is to (soft) reboot 4000, interestingly (or confusingly) the screen always turns momentarily green on the reboot.
I have tried changing the Amiga display modes but that has no effect.
Any one had this problem or any ideas to overcome?

many thanks, Ian

Try starting with something simple, like "video=pal" in the kernel boot line.

OK folks,

have found time to edit the kernal bootline@ in the "install" file. Have used options like :-
 video=pal
 video=amifb:640x512,27,47
with further option like :-
 depth:2
 monitorcap:50;90;15;38

But alas none of these appear to work still left with original
debug message, will keep trying ........
