Termite TCP ???
« on: March 24, 2008, 04:07:07 PM »
I'm having a problem with Termite TCP.
I know its not widely used (copyrited).
I've been using it for about 15 years,
but haven't been on-line with my Miggy
for a couple years now.
A few days ago I updated IBrowse to 2.4
and tried to go on-line.
It appears that Termite isn't conpatable
on the net anymore as I'm having a problem
with both IBrowse and Yam.

Anyone know what the problem is with Termite ?
Is it a setting or what ?

Any help will be greatly appreciated ........

Yes... its working.
I can connect with the PC so the modem is OK and
I can connect with the A3000, but thats about it.
When I try to connect to email at my ISP it can't
find the address. When I start IBrowse it takes
forever to get my ISP home page, if I can even get it.
It seems by what is happening that somehow Termite may
not be compatable, but WHY, (a setting maybe)?
I tend to think Termite should still work.

I have the OS 3.9 cd w/Genesis, I tried it a few years
ago when I first bought OS 3.9. I kind of thougt Termite
was better at the time, maybe I should try it again.
I would still like to know what the problem is with Termite.
I've tried adjusting the settings but that didn't seem to
help.

I know very little about termite, but perhaps it is not configuring the DNS server correctly?

While connected, try using IP addresses (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) instead of URL's?

Whatever happened with Termite? I know the author, or at least the owner of the source code, was trying to sell the code a few years ago. If it were available, it would/could be the only currently developed 'classic' stack, as far as I know.

A Termite update  :-D

I found my problem. My ISP had changed their DNS numbers
several months ago.
Termite requires the correct DNS address in the settings.
After I inserted the correct address everything works great.

IBrowse ver.2.4 runs MUCH faster than expected (exceptable).
Now I just have to see why Ver.2.4 isn't excepting the key.
Its running the Demo version.
I am a reguestered owner of ver 2.1.
Anyone have any ideas about the key problem ?

It's a shame that Termite TCP is for dialup (SLiP/PPP) only and doesnt support ethernet (SANA-II).

You cannot register V2.4, it's a demo only.

I know that from Amiga Future, I translated that text.

No .. thats not completly correct.......

If you are a reguestered owner of ver.2.xx (paid for the
upgrade from ver.1.xx) then the 2.xx key is supposed to
open the full version of 2.4.
Thats the way I understand IOSpirits memo.
Am I wrong ??

I'll check on that (read the docs)
Termite does support networking but I don't remember all
the details .....
I'll check the docs and post it.

I don't know what the IOSpirit site says, but they no longer sell IBRowse anyway.

And here is what Amiga Future had to say about 2.4 IBrowse:

An version of IBrowse 2.4 is already installed, which exhibits some restrictions, however, and cannot be activated to the full version using a keyfile.

So, I don't think it can be upgraded. I also seem to remember that being said on the IB mail list, but I'm not 100% sure about that.

@ wurzel

That might be the OS4 OEM version. The plain downloadable demo will work with any 2.x keyfile.
