Genesis Help
« on: March 22, 2008, 11:16:46 PM »
Hello,

I just received a Mediator PCI for my 3000T. I am trying to set up 10/100 Ethernet card. I installed the driver from Elbox and am trying the Genesis Wizard to connect to a Belkin router. I have assigned the FastEthernet.device unit 0 then the wizard sends a BOOTP request and locks up the computer. Is there any other way to configure the card other than the wizard?

You need a Voodoo graphics card with Picasso96 drivers up and running before you can use the FastEthernet driver.

Bye,
Thomas

It's not strange, it's how it works. The FastEthernet hardware needs DMA in order to work and the Mediator is not able to do DMA into Amiga memory. So you need some sort of memory on the PCI bus which is used for DMA and then the data can be copied from PCI memory to Amiga memory by the processor.
The only PCI memory which is currently recognised by the Mediator drivers is the memory on a supported graphics card.

Bye,
Thomas

I'm always astounded by the little bits and pieces of technical know-how that you can acquire on this forum. I don't think PC people could ever enjoy the same community spirit. This site has really re-kindled my interest in the Amiga after the magazines slowly disappeared. One day, it will be back in a new form. It's too good not to be.

I believe an alternative would be to use a 10mbps Ethernet card, which does not require DMA and will thus work without the Voodoo. Though Voodoo cards can be bought so cheaply, you'd be mad not to get one if you have a Mediator.

@Amithony

"I don't think PC people could ever enjoy the same community spirit."

You are right there.
I have been to a few PC community places, and its not the same spirit.
Some are sarcastic as though you should know any way.
And some have got a foul mouth on them to say the least.

I hate that.

But here they are a friendly bunch.
