Ibrowse, Aweb, Omg? and recap of probs solved (os4)
« on: March 16, 2008, 02:47:13 PM »
First of all thanks to members who helped me with the below
problems (now fixed).

Fried clockport cable for subway, brought another and thankfully subway was'nt damaged! Laser mouse works very good
with niggles.

Wireless card would'nt fit in tower, so member/members suggested to cut hole in case. This now works!.Took a while to hit upon how to connect. I think temperly lowering of the routers firewall did the trick!

Now onto the browsers.

Ibrowse(supplied with os4) works quicker than Aweb, most noticable pictures load quicker than Aweb. Drawback is scroll wheel does'nt work, i.e turning it does'nt scroll the page.

Aweb (suplied with easynet disk) works slower but page looks
like it is more accurate, and the scroll wheel works(Really happy about this).(Perhaps speed of picture display can be sped up with external progs in config?)

It would be interesting to hear of other peoples opinions(I hav'nt been on the internet long with the amiga).
(I've succesfully downloaded os4 update and it worked first time!)

OMG? How does this compare with the above browsers? I've heard it takes a lot of memory! Does it display more pages that the above can't get right? Where do you download this possible gem?

Any replies gratfully received

OMG? I assume that you mean OWB. ;-)
You can find it here. Please download the external dependencies and follow the installation instructions carefully. It's still in beta so it's a little unstable.

OWB is definitely slower and much more memory hungry than IBrowse and AWeb, but it renders pages containing CSS correctly. It's very rough around the edges, but it is usable.

BTW, if you haven't seen it already, you can find a lot of OS4 software on os4depot.net.

Oh, and you might want to get AmiUpdate from its website. It's very useful for keeping a lot of software up to date.

Just tried Amiupdate and mostly updated MUI, but it also downloaded a new version of the Prism2 driver which didn't work, so I returned to using the old one.The look of the updater is very polished, it's a shame that some things have to  be installed manually, but nice that it at least downloads
new versions for you.

Thanks for the input.

Hmmm.. scroll wheel works with Ibrowse with other OS'es, but did you try to press down the scroll wheel and move the mouse? At least that should make you be able to scroll page as it's internal with MUI... although you might have to press shift too for some speedup ;) I have defined shift for middle mousebutton, so it works quickly by default ;)

Yes already tried this, it works. Perhaps need to delve deeper into trident config for scroll wheel?
