A1200 PPC Blizzard and OS4
« on: November 26, 2002, 12:17:59 AM »
Was trying to figure this out with a friend, will OS4 run on my A1200 PPC Blizzard board? I heard it would on big box Amigas w/PPC but what about the A1200s?

Thanks :-?

It may come up even before the A1 version, but after the cybervisionppc version.

I just hope to see the Shark PPC released and a version of OS4 working for it. I've got so much money in my A3000 its the best route to take for me since the Shart is expected to be about half of what an A1 runs.

Thanks all, I hope I'll get to do something with this pricy hardware I got.

I tried running linux on it from that old CU Amiga disc, got it running but what can you do with it? Practically speaking. Boy it was quick though...

Ben said the Blizzard version would be released early next year about
the same time as the A1 version.

I hope to be using both versions.

"I  hope to be using both versions."
Then you will have to buy it twice, one for the Blizzard and one for the A1 unless you subscribed to early bird promotion or amigaclub member.

Would like to see it there to, i have a blizzard card with Bvision just waiting for it...nice filler until i get the new hardware much later next year :-)

I do only have 32 mb fast though, im hoping that be more than enough.
I can make '98 run out of mem on my comp with ease, either memory leaks or just bloatware s/w and OS, i'd go with the lot. Oh yeah i have 512mb in that

I have ordered the amiga1 and also have 1200ppc with grex
am mighty pissed at dce as i now wont be able to run both machines on os4
as i would have liked to do, will have to stay with 3.9 and have grex working
cant understand the mentality of it all ow well at least A1 will be os4

@Calen

32mb ? Fat chance !!!

Remember:

All of AOS will be in RAM (ROM isn't used after boot).

All 68k will go through the JIT, and 8-16mb for the cache should
be the minimum, and ~64mb would be perfect.

PPC-code is bigger than the same function in 68k.

Won't leave much place for your apps.

IIRC, Hyperion (Actually, one of the Freiden's I think) said in theory you would need 8mb Run OS4.0. Thats not taken into account 68k JIT emulation, which I understand would need more. I reckon you might get away with 32mb.

I also read that the order would be:

Cyberstorm PPC
AmigaOne
Blizzard PPC (hopefully)

This was all from the AmigaOS4 mailing list. And is subject to my memory not being corrupt!
