ebay removed Amiga category!
« on: March 11, 2008, 01:24:39 PM »
I just did some revisions on some listings I had up on ebay this morning...U.S. version of ebay.

...and first thing it told me was the category I'd selected was no longer valid!

I selected again...Computers & Networking/Vintage Computing...and that's it!  nothing else...they've removed all the brands and lumped everything together...Atari, Commodore, whatever...

not sure I like that...
Sincerely,

-- Sprocket...

That's a terrible decision!  Is there a mechanism for sending feedback to ebay?

they've added "brand" and "type" fields when you set up listings here and they've been there for a while now...often overlooked by many.

I suspect lumping things into one sub category stresses correct entries in those two fields above now...that searches will be using those to delineate instead of the category.

..which lets ebay thin out their category, tree which has gotten sort of immense, but keeps the brand and type data in those listing fields.

maybe it will actually be an improvement.  I suspect they're testing it and will use it all over depending on response.

Sincerely,

What? EBay cares about what their users think?

Good! I'm glad. Maybe it will make Amiga stuff harder to find and the prices will go down a bit.

I know I'll be more lazy about it when I have to do 10 different searches to find all the Amiga stuff.

depends on if the lister takes the time to put the word Amiga in the "type" field...

for example..

in my current cybervision graphics board listing I put

Brand: Phase 5
Type: Amiga graphics card

my guess is Amiga searches will probably find listings better now if your search has a qualifying term like "graphics" or "computer" and not turn up all the Spanish/girlfriend products it used to.

heh...

nope...

we used to have our own category.

Computers & Networking/Vintage Computing/Amiga

but no longer

now only

Computers & Networking/Vintage Computing/

but I'll have to keep an eye on "electronics" now

miscategorized/misspelled listings are the way to find bargains.

Much agreed!  I have gotten many steals this way!  You really have to be meticulous in your searching.  Wait, no, don't.  Leave it for me  :-D
