Windows running VirtualPC running WinUAE?
« on: August 02, 2003, 03:33:48 PM »
I know this will sound weird, but I want to know if anyone has had success running WinUAE under VirtualPC in Windows.

The reason I ask is because at work we are not allowed to run any non-company OK'd software. One program we can run is VirtualPC. I know they don't check to see what we have running on the VirtualPC so I figured I could load WinUAE and some games.

I tried it and it works except for one small detail... the mouse doesn't work!

Has anyone gotten this to work completely?

Excellent idea on how to beat the system.

Except for one thing. Is there a _reason_ they don't want you to run unchecked software, or are they just being bastards?

Here, they don't give a flying rats ass WHAT I do with my computer (or my office, it's constantly full of Amiga hardware :-) ). But I know places where the boss isn't one of the guys (and his boss is CERTAINLY not one of the guys...). So do you think it's a good idea, really? :-)

I work for a government agency. They are paranoid about licensing issues. Usually it is not that big of a deal, but now they are using SMS to do software inventories. My other option is to use a spare PC that isn't connected to the network. Anyway... It was just an idea. I'll post my results next week.

The VirtualPC thing is great. I do some web development for my job as well. They insist on using Frontpage, but with VitualPC, I can use Dreamweaver and other stuff.

My company has a similar thing - I presume it's either because of risks of viruses, or dodgy programs which might cause conflicts or make things unstable. Or possibly licensing issues as patrick says.

Although rather amusingly, the exact wording says that we're not allowed to use "shareware or public domain software", which seems to suggest legally obtained commercial software would be okay - but also, the vast majority of freely distributable software, since most of it isn't public domain in the proper sense of the word.
