Amiga 4000 tower to a1200 conversion
« on: August 01, 2003, 04:37:52 PM »
Im now thinking of puting my a1200 with ppc in a genuine a4000 tower case due to the fact that the non running a4000 tower does not work and anologic.co.uk say they only repair the commodore made desktop 4000.Unless there is anywere else in the uk that can repair it it looks like it will end up a more reliable a1200 conversion .should i do this, the motherboard and all other boards would be sold for spares on ebay .Or should i try and get someone to repair it and keep it as an a 4000 i bought it to get it repaired, the a1200 conversion would give me the look of the a4000 and i could then sell my eyetech tower case .im just not sure if i should or not. :-o  :-o  :-?  :-)

Get the A4000T repaired.. Don't hacksaw the case to fit the A1200 in..

What's the matter with it?

I could be very wrong, but isn't the motherboard on the A4000T the same as in the desktop, but with a different zorro daughterboard?
If so, why don't you just post the board off to analogic (whom I've also found to be unhelpful in the past) and not say what it came from. If not, look for a new(er) A4000 motherboard on ebay.
I have an A1200 and would dearly like its big bother - don't junk the 4000!!!
Saw the light in 1990, found WinUAE in 2003

Im afraid the desktop motherboard is completly diffrent which is a shame as i have a desktop a4000 which i could have took it from .I dont want to junk the a4000 motherboard but the tower motherboards are rarer than desktops.I bought this because i always wanted the a4000 tower.

If I recall correctly, the A4kT is essentially an AT tower case... The board was designed to take a standard AT power supply and used the hole layout of an AT case... LARGE AT form factor, mind you.

A4000D, A3640 OC-36.3MHz, custom tower, Mediator A4000D. Diamond Banshee 16M, Indivision AGA 4000, GVP HC+8.

Mac Mini 1.5GHz, that might run MorphOS someday, when the fools who own it come to the realization that 30 minutes just isn\'t enough time to play with it enough to decide whether or not you like it enough to cough up $200.

 - Someone please design SOME kind of DIY accelerator for the A4000. :D -

Looks like ill be converting this soon after i have finished the apple mac pc wich is not far off complete. My plan is not to cut the case at all, ill get leads to conect from a1200 to back of the case then if i do ever find a motherboard i still have the option of puting it back together. :-)  :-)

Hows the Apple PC going? I'd like to see that as I've been thinking what to do with the IIx I have sitting around here :)
Restraining orders are just another way of saying I love you!

The apple pc is not doing bad but space is a bit tight and the cdrom is mounted on the right hand side. It needs a little bit more work possibly drilling holes above the cpu fan due to there not being a lot of room also power supp;y needs a smaller fan fiting to it and a backplate needs making up. It might need a new hard drive my 40 gig ibm might have surface errors .then it will be what os to use im hoping to get suse linux 8 and beos 5 max pe edition and if possible qnx. :-)
