I think it is quite hard as both cpu,s use difrent voltage and as far as i know the 040 is surface mount and would not be easy to remove and resolder an 060 to. :-o
I once had an amigaone xe but sold it .

It sure is... only extra part you need is the 060 CPU & holder. AZine, a swedish Amiga mag, had a description about how to do this in the last issue I think. :-D

On

see the "Upgrading an 040 to an 060" section. It's for the CyberStormPPC, but should be pretty much the same.

I know it can be done, because someone already did it ( upgrade the 68040 with an 68060 ). I don't remember who did it. But the guy got some information from Phase5. It was in those day when it was so popular to tweak your accellerator until you started sweat! ;-)

By the way, I got my 68040 removed and had a soket placed on the BlizzardPPC. Some guy I Norway (Bergen) fixed it for me...

I'm wondering... Does anyone know if there was a problem with the software on the BlizzPPC that had to overcome?
I think the Mhz of the crystal controlling the 68k, also controlls the SCSI II controller, which gave you a problem when increasing the frequenzy... whatever... If you want it done right, don't listen to me. I forgotten to much ;-)

The move is pritty easy (apart from the removal of 040 CPU) and doesn't need any other components than the CPU and holder, no need for a different crystal unless you aim for overclocking the thing at the same time. Just change position of voltage selector, CPU selector and then flash the card for the 060 CPU (flashupdate-300399.lha on AmiNet) and you're done.

Hi Dudes!

I´m very very interested on this subject, since I have a 040 240 PPC here, and a 50Mhz 060 just lying here.

Can you post the info translated o english pls.

I couldn´t found the pertinent translator for it.

I think a english explanation would do the job for me.

Thank you in advance

I would very much advise AGAINST such undertakings, I work for Hyperion and i'm in charge of the PPC repair service. A lot of these broken boards are the result of such efforts, And the risk is far bigger then the gains.

When you will run MOS and/or AOS 4 it won't matter what CPU is on there anyway.

Kind Regards,

Finally, There will be a BPPC version of AOS4?

I´m quite sure that a modern version of MOS is already running internally on Genesi, but Dunno what`s up with AOS 4 for BPPC.

It´ll be great to run the new version of AMiGA OS in the 1200 :)

Best Regards

From what I understand:
The problem with supporting BPPC isn't the BPPC itself anymore. I think Hyperion knows most of the quirks and bugs by now. It's more a case of supporting all the odd A1200 configurations. Would you upgrade to AOS4 if it meant throwing out half your tower? I didn't think so :-)

But I guess it pretty much depends on how many drivers can be ported and how many can run emulated. The problem is those who can neither.

Hi!

I would be very glad if someone that speaks swedish translate the post for us.

I have tried some swedish to english translators, but the translated text is unuseable.

Thank you in advance

That should explain what's needed to be done. Just remember that these are delicate components and you shouldn't try this unless you know exactly what you're doing. :nervous:

(this image won't be online for very long, so if you need it... make a local copy)

@Olegil
Why not, the most expensive stuff would probably still be usefull. THe BPP card itself, stuff like PowerFlyers etc..
