The dongle to let you run OS4 on it.

Do you mean the Kichflash from individual computers?  That's flash memory that holds the OS and plugs into a zorro slot.  If anything it could be faster than OS3.9 on an A4k, as the entire OS is on solid state memory (not just the kernal, a few libraries and things)

----edit----

That's only the A4k, and maybe the A1200 with a Zorro busboard.  There's nothing stopping you installing OS4 onto a solid state IDE device on the A1, which should have similar results.  Just remember that there is only a certain number of writes possible on those, so don't use it for swap if you enable virtual memory.

Ohhh THAT.

Its not a Dongle, Its just extra code in the BIOS E2PROM that provides extra functionality required by AOS4. Makes absolutely no difference, other than y'cant run OS4 if y'aint got the code.  :-P

Yip, from the Hyperion site:

"Hyperion Entertainment and Individual Computers are pleased to announce that they have been cooperating on Kickflash, a highly optimized flashrom card for the Zorro-based Amigas.

The Kickflash device will allow users of AmigaOS 4.x to locate a compressed Kickstart 4.0 image in flashrom memory, cutting down significantly on booting times."

Jayzus, this thread moves quick !
that must've been the 3rd time I've been double posted (posts appearing coincidentally with mine) !!

KickFlash wont work on an A1 cos it aint got Zorro slots. only AGP and PCI.
