Monitor for A1200

I am buying an A1200 which I will one day convert to a tower set-up.
I will be using DPaint most of the time.....some other paint programs as well...but mainly DPaint.
Can you help with monitor suggestions.
I would like to use a flat panel display if possible.

I would also like to do some video work one day so I have also purchased a SuperGen.
The seller also has a Sync Strainer... would I need this?

Welcome to A.org, the friendliest Amiga site on the Net.

To use a flat panel display monitor for DPaint use on your A1200 you are going to need a scan doubler and preferably one that is also a flicker fixer.  For video work a Commodore 1084S is hard to beat, but if you can find an LCD TV that can also sync down to 15kHz for its vga input (these are sort of rare) it would be good for most everything you want to do with your A1200.

 If you have enough luck, buy/grab/locate/steal a real Amiga multisync monitor.

 They are rare, expensive and old, but work perfectly with any Amiga, in any resolution!

Yes I am an old time Amiga user.
I started my art career in 1986 on an A1000 and became a successful fashion designer ( Swatch, Ellesse, Wilson, Elho Freestyle) very much due to the way DPaint and the Amiga created such a unique look to my work.

I designed all the graphics and clothing for many of the biggest IndyCar, NASCAR and IMSA auto racing events during the late 90's.  As well as winning an EMMY award for a windsurfing video which I co-directed and did anims and roto work on.
All on my trusty A2000!
I now just do fine art and I am very keen to return to my roots and my fave program....DPaint.
I have just purchased a very nice 1200 which I'm gonna tower and I think I will get an A3000 cos I've found a very good deal on one, so why not eh!

I just tried to call Software Hut for info on the Internal Scan Magic - Scan Doubler w/ Flicker Fixer for A1200/A4000D but there is no reply.
Do you know if they are still in business.
Anyone have experience with the Scan Magic?

I've been using one  in an A4000D and it has been excellent. Some people say that it doesn't scandouble AGA screens perfectly, but that has never bothered me :pint:

I emailed SoftHut about the ToastScan ones about a month ago, and they responded after a week.  I don't believe that they have any of the DCE ones either, though.  They are all hard to come by.

Hello. I don't know what resolution you want to play with, but NTSC/PAL will go up to 640x512 (or 1280x512, if you want to do that), but a reasonably high quality tv should work for that. LCD flat-screen tv's would work, too. As far as scandoubling is concerned, you definatly want an external one. The internal one I'm using scandoubles both the RGB port AND the composite/RF modulated ports. I learned this by trying to video tape a browsing session on my VCR, and it didn't work that well.... (I had a VCR plugged into my 1200 for recording MPG animations and such to tape) Now I have a 20" SVGA montior, but no NTSC ability because of the internal scandoubler. If you have 2 amigas, you could use an internal for one, and dedicate the other for video work, though. (My old 1200 without the scandouble is set up for this purpose, and will become the video machine as soon as I get a prism compatible wireless card for her.)

SoftHut is out. Good luck on getting a reply though, the last several (very polite) emails I sent went unanswered. Can't say I blame 'em though, I'm sure amiga-related sales are a low priority for them these days.
