Trying to identify an old Amiga game
« on: February 17, 2008, 06:21:44 PM »
Can you help me find the name of the following Amiga game I played in the 80's ?  I can't remember the exact year but it was before 1990.  If I remember well, the game takes place in some nuclear war scenery : at some point in the game you are presented with a map of operations showing the northern hemisphere.  It's an action game at least in the first level : in a first-person view, you are running in a corridor, having to avoid or shoot pedestrian enemies coming from side ways.  At the end of this level or maybe another, you meet a woman for some kind of love scene.

Does it ring any bell ?

Thank you for any remembrance.

Thanks for your hint.

No, unfortunately it's not Nuclear War.  The north hemisphere view however is similar, but the style is darker.

It's not impossible that I am mixing two games.  In that case, only the level 1 description I gave belongs to the game I'm looking for, not the hemisphere view or nuclear war scenery, which might as well come from other games I was playing at the time, such as Raid Over Moscow on the C64.

A really old suggestion would be Balance of Power.

Thanks again.

Narco Police is too recent.

Balance of Power is a strategy game in 640x200 while the game I'm looking for is an arcade game in 320x200.

I don't recall having played Mayday Squad so a priori it may be it, but the look is very different and probably the scenery : the game I'm looking for had rather futuristic scenery and backgrounds.

I played this game before 1990, so it can't be Beast Busters, Space Gun, Punisher or Alcatraz, all released in the 90's.  It's not Zombi either, which is a game I know well.  I don't remember Hostages, but according to the screenshots is has a different look and scenery as well, so I'm pretty sure it's not Hostages either.

Well, not exactly : she was not my type.

Trying to be more precise about that level, I seem to remember that you weren't able to control your speed : you were just moving forward in the way of "Operation Thunderbolt" (which it was not).  The corridor had a metal look, was well lit up, and was suggesting the interior of a space ship or base.  The love scene at the end had a light and shade look, which maybe could remind the love meeting in "Defender of the Crown".

Can you remember anything from the intro? Logos, music?

Controls, mouse, keyboard or joystick? One or two players? If so, turns, shared screen or splitscreen?

Well, no, I cannot say much more, unfortunately.  Whether it was a one or two player game, in any case it was one player at a time : the action took the full screen.

It could be like in Lotus II - full screen in one player mode and splitscreen in two players mode : I can't tell.  However the concept and design of the love scene makes me think of a one player only game.

Try browsing screen grabs on sites like:
http://www.classicamiga.com
http://hol.abime.net/
http://www.lemonamiga.com/

Maybe you'll see something on these sites then that'll spark the old gray? :)

No it couldn't be, as Burntime dates from 1993.

@arnljot

I browsed these sites from time to time, without success until now, hence this thread.  I have just browsed all the Hall of Light games that have screenshots and are older than 1990 : the game I'm looking for is not among them.

I played this game at a cousin's home, who has since thrown his Amiga and games to the bin (no I don't forgive him).  He remembers the game (and could confirm my memory) but not the name.
