"...with a snap on/off TFT foldover screen like the PS1 has.
Totally portable miggy a1-lite, now thats appealing."

Never thought of that, would be great though.

Difinitly NO. Either make a desktop or a portable notebook version.

I would rather see something along the lines of an A600 myself.  I like the smaller form.  With the advent of replaceble laptop video cards, many of which are using the top of the line graphics chips, you could still upgrade the machine over the years.  I would also like to see a machine with no legacy ports.  If you took an A600 and replaced the Paralell and serial ports with USB, I buet you could get six USB 2.0 ports back there instead.  If you replace the joystick ports you could probably add another 4 USB ports.  Now you can add whatever you like and just about as many devices as you would want. All in a small machine that is portable and powerful.  Sound good anyone?

I agree with you on the replaceble laptop V-Cards, but I strongly disagre about the A600 style case, nice as it was it lacked the numeric keypad, as well as a few other keys. A lot of people missed that on the keyboard.

If they are going to do it, it should be in true a1200 style. i never liked the a600, way too small and flimsy, a1200 is def the best lookin "small miggy". i like'd the old a2k, dunno why heh big an chunky :-)

Maybe a500 style, slightly smaller on the back and maybe a bit taller instead to accomidate the new ports. It should definatley have a built in ethernet port, usb etc all the usual stuff plus some amiga- only ports for those amiga only prepherals so we can show micro$oft they aint the only "make it difficult for everyone else" company :-)

Yes

AmigaOne G3Lite you could connect to a smallish TFT would cover my need for portable. If it can be run off of batteries would be a pluss, but mostly you're not THAT portable anyway. And the battery capacity on PC laptops these days ain't that good either, so...

Something between desktop and portable would suit me fine, I don't need anything fancy in it. Allthough an external scsi connector would be a neat addition.
Oh well, I guess USB will do for most purposes.

I don't like laptops, the keyboards never fit my fat fingers. My AmigaOne tower is too heavy to bring on vacations. I was just on 3 day trip with my Access. Now THERE'S a nice box. AmigaOne in the same shape will SURELY be a winner system :-)

it'd be nice from a nostalgic point of view but surely the way to go is something like the X box ... love or hate M$ how many millions of "normal" people looking for an alternate computing solution would prefer something they can plug a gamepad in one end and a telly in the other? or plug in a keyboard and mouse (dreamcast, anybody?)(hell, 9v batteries and infra-red!) and check your email during the adverts on telly but still be able to hook it up to gizmos and gadgets such as scanners... most people (i do PC admin/virus killing for normal folk) dont run their computers higher than 800x600 anyway as they dont like the writing to get too small on screen... and most tellies nowadays (or is it JUST the sony's???) can handle 8x6 y'know ....

having the keyboard built in just doesnt fit with the way of things... it'd mean getting off your chair to go use it under the telly!

For home, no - I need a full size tower, but for the workplace... Yes.

Extreme Computing have a "zero footprint" PC advertised which looks remarkably like an A1200 but with CD (or CDRW or CDRW/DVD) drive installed in one side, floppy on the other and space at the back for a PCI card (for TV out perhaps?).  Combined with a flat screen monitor it makes a nice (and cheaper) alternative to using a laptop in a confined space... always assuming you don't need to take it with you.
A2000, A3000, 2 x A1200T, A1200, A4000Tower & Mediator, CD32, VIC-20, C64, C128, C128D, PET 8032, Minimig & ARM, C-One, FPGA Arcade... and AmigaOne X1000.

Make it in the shape of a boing ball, kinda like one of those apple macs but totally round so it falls off the desk

Although semi-seriously, if it were in the shape of a ball, you could have the stand underneath it acting as a cable tidyer by making the stand's legs hollow, then near the feet have cable exit wholes.   But then the bulk of the plug has to get through.  Oh well, it was a thought :-)

Nah make it roll of the desk. After all if we want the amiga to over take the PC then, surley we have to adapt its most famous feature. The ability to fall over...? heh heh sorry...

Yes, especially if it was a low price model like the original A1200...

Although I doubt we see many pci slots on the AmigaOne Lite due to its dimensions it would be nice to have a connector similar to the inlined with a pci one included in the Pegasos1. That way you would have the option of adding 3 pcis for example if you later decide to expand your machine with more cards... That would give you the best option: you need a Mini-ITX? no problem, you need a little more expansion? just plug in the optional pci slots and you have the option of adding more pci cards :-)
hey Alan Redhouse! are you reading this? ;-)

It would be great if IBM released the new G3 with VMX extensions... that way software written for the altivec of the G4 would work without problems...

I don't care if the cpu is soldered to the motherboard, most of people change it with each new cpu. A G3 with VMX and some kind of decent Radeon on-board, 5.1 sound, ethernet (if it's gigabit, then even better, the price of intel gigabit ethernet chips seems to be similar to 100mbit chips), and usb2 and serial-ata would be great :-)

a 1Ghz G3 without VMX would be nice but would waste the effort of making the AmigaOne a G4 based computer because if the Lite version doesn't include altivec, few apps will use it... so I would wait until IBM releases the G3 with VMX(aka altivec) to release the AmigaOne Lite...

Absolutely not.  A mini-cube with 3 PCI slots as a minimum is the "tiniest" I think they should make.
Back away from the EU-SSR!

First of all in regard to CyberMech's question, yes.

Secondly @ amigamad

You mean a 1200 style case, no?

And last of all @ Crumb

The CPU is not solderd to the mobo on the A1-lite.

Otherwise from what I've been able to gather so far from
diffrent sources like CAM-readers and Ben's panel speach at AmiWest2003,
it's going to look something like this.

micro-ITX formfactor (170mm x 170mm), one AGP,
one PCI-slot, onboard graphics and sound,
gigabyte ethernet, USB 2.0, Firewire,
a Compact flash card reader and, like the current
A1-Xe, a MegAray connector.

With complete pc systems costing less than $300 I doubt the cheap home computer niche that the 1200 originally filled is still viable.

That said, I'd still love to see a new 1200 style amiga. Maybe with a slidein battery and lcd attachment that turns it into a nice portable unit in one step.
