Drivers Drivers Drivers!!!!!
« on: February 15, 2008, 12:31:22 PM »
Ok this may be a long shot as im not completely sure as to how you use this but this is apparently software to construct or at least help construct drivers. The point I am interested in is it will write Linux drivers does that mean it can be of use to us. I wont go into it all as I dont fully understand but heres a link. http://www.start64.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=713&Itemid=73

That depends, on whether it produces source code or object code. If it produces object code it will probably be compiled for i386, and unusable.

Edit: According to the Jungo website, WinDriver can produce C# or VB.NET code. I don't know how easy it would be to translate that to C or C++.

It's not of much use for us as Windows and Linux drivers are very different from Amiga ones. It would be nice to have an equivalent tool for the Amiga.

Yeah, a tool like that would be wonderful alright, but unfortunately when you get into drivers, different platforms bear almost no resemblance to each other. At a higher level, source code can generally be ported to equivalent functions on different architectures and operating systems, but at such a low level the hardware and methods of accessing it are so different it would be quicker and easier just to start from scratch.

I found an old disk with over 70 printer drivers and a printer driver generator.  I believe it to be public domain but it was put out by Devware Inc. and the Disk label and format is copyrighted but the files should be public domain.  I used an Amiga 500 so I believe the drivers are geared towards that.  I'm not able to upload these at this time but if someone wants a copy, they can do so if we have an agreement that they email me the files and that I get the disk mailed back in a manner where the disk won't get destroyed or bent by the mail system.

I'm sure that printers have changed since 1989 (except if there are generic printer drivers) so this may be a waste to a lot of people but I'll listen to what other people have to say.

If someone wants to trade public domain files that I can download for Amiga Anywhere then that would be a plus too but it has to be with someone who I can trust which means that someone who does what they say because I don't want to lose my files.
