2.05 SCSI Disk
« on: February 13, 2008, 12:37:05 AM »
Hi

Simple one for you. Why was 2.05 shipped with the extra disk for the SCSI Install. I have a set here, and while the main 2.05 disks are blue, the SCSI Install is grey. The disk is identified on GDs site as...

SCSI Install Disk
Version 2.05

Not come across this before.

 Install disk for A3000, perhaps?
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.

The GD page only makes ref to an update for the A600 and no reference to the A3000. However there are two versions of the disks and the only diff is the name of the disks drop the Amiga from the title... ie Amiga Fonts becomes just Fonts and the top corner has ref to 'int' which I think means international version. The install can be one of three versions... Simply Install Disk, or SCSI Install and A600HD Install. I think the SCSI Install and the ' Int ' are the clue to this being a set for a more broad user base. This I think was replaced with the more suitable A600HD specific install when they started shipping with internal IDE and PCMCIA. Only my thoughts... The SCSI install was for installing on machines like the 3000 with internal or external SCSI hard drives... Guessing.

The disk is labelled when inserted 2.0install which really means nothing other than it installs to HD the version of Workbench. All the files date from 9th Jan 1992 which is about correct. There is reference to only two devices on the  disk for the A2232.. oldser.device and serial.device.  The A2232 is a full length Zorro II card which provides  the Amiga with 7 additional RS232C serial ports.  Suggesting again that the disk assumes a zorro based machine.

There is also an interesting icon with the names of  various Amiga folk on it called who.info on the disk.

On the label to the Workbench disk there is ref to Wishful Thinking Developments Corp.. ??

I don't think your version of OS 2.05 was for the A3000.
I have a set of the OS 2.05 disks that came with my son's
A3000 when he bought it new way back when ....(about 1991).

My set of OS 2.05 disks are origonals and has 'NO' HD
Install disk.

My best guess is they are for an A600.
