Easy COMPONENT for A1200 !!!! and maybe S-Video
« on: February 11, 2008, 07:29:31 PM »

Check out this device on ebay..it turns SCART into COMPONENT!  and since they sell Amiga RGB to SCART cables, one can just plug the SCART in one end and COMPONENT comes out the other :-)

What do you guys think?:

And here is a device that may enable one to turn Amigas RGB output into S-Video and Composite.............this stuff looks cool...........anyone know if it will work?

I thought Amiga video is already RGB (component). So there wouldn't be a need to use SCART and then Component but you could just make one cable that does in one go.

S-Video is another matter though.

No. You need to convert it.

Component is YPbPr, not RGB. YPbPr is converted from the RGB video signal by splitting it into three components, Y, Pr and Pb.

Yeah, it will work by turning a lovely RGB-signal into a mediocre S-Video or a crappy Composite-signal.

@######

Well how else do you expect to record Amiga's Output to Video?

S-Video is actually pretty darn good looking..........almost looks as good as RGB on a good S-Video TV.

A1200's Composite output is professional crap... so one would desire a better Composite output or the better S-Video.

You said that this device will work by the way......how do you know it will?  Im asking because it looks like you have to attach the proper RGB signals to the board first........and who knows if they are Digital or Analog?

I would die to get this board if it works.

My hard disk recorder takes RGB on its SCART connectors. ;-)

The video connector on the back of all Amigas outputs analogue RGB, as well as digital RGB in 16 colours. To get digital RGB in full colour, you need to wire yourself into the video chip, or use the video slot on big box Amigas.

PAL countries have the RGB inputs on most of the equipment. NTSC countries have composite bnc things.

I use the following RGB to Component converter for my Amigas.

http://www.hometheatre.net.au/cyu2100.htm

It does a brilliant job. Looks even better on the TV than a Commodore monitor.

Looks like the same unit, just rebranded

but anyway.......why do you guys keep these things a secret?  we got to let ALL Amigans know about these cool devices so that they too can REPRESENT in the world, that our Amigas are still hanging on.

Dang, now I have got to get me one of these.

AmigaKit! why dont you buy a few of these and test them! then you can sell it to us. See if they work with the RGB to SCART cables you got.

It's cool (I tried this already last year with a JROK), but try to find an LCDTV over here that will display things like PAL (an absolute necessity if you watch demos) and/or laced screens correctly, and isn't TN on top of it. I've shelled out for two so far with no luck. There are a few shops that specialize in "multi system" LCDTVs, but you'll have no idea what you're getting (or if it will work) until you shell out the $$$ and wait for it.

There were a smallish number of ED/HDTV CRTs, Sony made some killer ones that handle PAL and will display laced screens perfect, but they're huge... (guess you could sit 20 feet back, LOL).

What are you talking about; keeping secrets and so on? With some research you can find out a lot yourself. It's not that this converter is the holy grail of Amiga computing... I find it expensive for example.

Also why would I need to show people my classic Amiga? To get them to enjoy the same hobby? It's not that I want to keep it all to myself but people should decide for themselves what hobbies they have (and yes Amigas are hobby machines IMHO). We are not here to convert other people into Amiga users; it's not a religion; at least not for me.

Expensive? I paid only $110AUD. It is a small price to pay to have RGB SCART.

I very highly recommend this converter especially for people using the dreaded A520 modulator.
