A3000 rom tower

Does anybody have a photo of the correct orientation of the A3000 rom tower when its sat in place.
Reason I ask is that I have just installed some new 3.1 roms, placed the rom tower on my bench in the position that in came out so I wouldn't forget.

Then my phone rang, went to answer, came back and my cat had decided to play football with the rom tower :madashell: .
Now I've placed it back in according to a photo on 'the big book of amiga hardware' but there's nothing to say that photo is correct.

I need help as I dare not turn it back on at the moment.

Its been a few years since I opened my A3k ....
But if I remember correctly ..these's a mark of
some sort that goes to the center of the MoBo.

Also as I remember it ... you cant hurt the roms
or the MoBo by putting it in wrong. It just wont
boot up. (Seems to me I did that once without damage).

Whoa, wait - Make sure you get them right. Most ROMs will fry if you reverse power and ground. My A2000, A4000 and A1200 had markings on the motherboard next to the ROM sockets to denot where pin one was.

It looks like a line with e a U divot out of it. To show where the notch in the ROM should be. -----U------ I appologize but I've never been lucky enough to own a A3000 let alone a tower version. I think they used to have a notch right out of the socket to denote pin one orientation.

Not an A3k-tower.

I 'KNOW' I installed the chips wrong once in
my A3k. I reinstalled them correctly and the
machine booted just fine.
As to the rom tower orentation, I cant sware to
it but I don't think that will hurt anything if
its wrong either. It just wont boot, Black screen.

If it wern't so much trouble, I would open mine up
to refresh my memory.

Thanks for the replies guys.  Yeah its not an A3000T but the little rom 'tower' in a desktop 3000.
I think I will take the chance tomorrow and try it the way ive got it.
I hope it is the correct way because as youve said mel it is a bit of a game getting it to bits !.

Don't risk it.  Your A3000 is too valuable to accidentally fry!

Boy are you lucky I'm so daring!  I just NOW unplugged my ROM tower to see which way it goes.  I am typing this in the very A3000UX that I just pulled the tower from.  It's STILL running!

I have a revision 1 ROM tower, and yes I know there was a different tower that is laid out different than this one.  I used to have an instruction sheet for 3.1 ROMs that showed it.

Anyway, on this one, "A3000 ROM TOWER REV 1" is farthest from the edge of the case with the mouse/keyboard/joystick ports.  U180 is closest the rear of the A3000.  U181 is closest the front.
Your A3000 is apparently different than mine because mine is clearly labeled.  U182 and U183 are marked as such, and plug into the equally well marked U182 and U183 sockets on the motherboard.  I know different rev motherboards have totally different printing on them.  My other A3000 without the ROM tower has totally different printing than this one.  This one does not have any of the jumpers labeled!

I fried my ROM tower ROMs trying to get 3.1 working long ago.  Dont rist it....  I ended up getting the special ROM Tower ROMs from Software Slut.
