Well I did it
« on: July 28, 2003, 05:13:07 AM »

I saw it and couldn't resist, an Amiga 500 + a 1804s monitor + a huge pile of original software + Amiga 1011 external floppy...

I was over picking up some older pc monitors (server monitors) and saw an amiga box, the guy said.. oh that.. I don't use that anymore, you can have it if you want it "

!!

so I grabbed the lot ;)

now I want to write some demos and grapevine ADFs to floppy so I can show off this ami to my game centre, is there any way on a pc or linux machine this can be done? or is the only way through a cat weazel?

cheers,
One

"I did it"

I thougth you just got layed for the first time 8-)
It's not productive to be typing this all over again and again. I suggest search on the net there's plenty of info about that.

I suggest you go to aminet and seach for a file/program called Ami2PC I think. Aminet is here. The file has the info and programs you need.

Do you want to copy ADFs to Amiga floppy?  If so, I'll write it out for the last time and put it on a website so I don't have to do this every few weeks :-D  ;-)

I've written a bit about it here.  If anyone wants to add something, just copy and paste this into your post and change stuff.  Hopefully, we'll end up with a generic guide :-)

-------START-------

This guide was created on Amiga.org as a team effort, and may be distributed and altered without any limitations.

Transferring an ADF file from a PC to a real Amiga disk

To transfer an ADF file to an Amiga-formatted floppy disk is a multi-stage process.  To begin with, you must realise that the PC floppy controller simply can't write or read Amiga disks (Disk2FDI, a cunning hack, can only read).  So the ADF file needs to be transferred to the Amiga.

The easiest way is with cables.

Alternatively, you can use more disks.  AmigaOS2.x and above can read MS-DOS formatted double density disks, and there is a program called "CrossDOS" for other versions.  So format a disk as double density (720k) on the PC.  It doesn't matter if you only have high density disks - simply put a piece of tape over the hole opposite the write-protect hole.

Now you've got a disk that both systems can read, but the ADF won't fit on it.  One way to solve this is to compress it using a tool that both the Amiga and the PC can understand, such as LHA or Zip.  If that doesn't work for you, you can split the file

Once you have reconstituted the ADF on the Amiga, then you simply need to insert a blank disk and use a tool such as ADF2Disk from Aminet to write the ADF file.

--------END---------

if it is a standard a500 1MB with a kick1.2 or 1.3 rom, then you can transfer the adf image/pc floppy reading software with this: http://amiga.nvg.org/warlock/wartrans/
You need the workbench extras disk though, cause you need the Amiga Basic program to write a tiny link application for transferring files over a null modem cable.. Everything is described on that site-

I tried it myself, works fine as long as you have the 1.x kickstart but is VERY slow though... i believe it took nearly an hour for a single adf image to transfer...

There is another Transdisk program you can use that works also, and it has a specially written version of the (Amiga End)transfer program that is small enough to be transferred to the Amiga via the TYPE command in a shell instead of using AmigaBasic

read the f.a.q. at this page, it explains how to get it over, along with having all necessary files.

http://homepage.uibk.ac.at/homepage/c725/c72578/amiga/

If you set your baud rate up to 9600 at both ends it should transfer a full ADF in about 15 minutes.

Well its back to no ami for me, the PSU has blown 3 fuses so far, however the monitor works brilliantly.

I'm putting in 250v 2amp fuses and boom..

are these too weak, ?

cheers,

did you cum too quickly,
searched for the entrance, without any luck,
or just didn't get it up?

if neither of those,
then where was the problem??

you just aim,
pump off the safety,
and fire...
what could go wrong???...

Er... those fuses should be good for 500W.
Sounds more like you`ve got a faulty PSU, or a major short going on somewhere.
