Finally got an Amiga 3000
« on: February 10, 2008, 08:22:31 PM »
Hello,

Just wanted to say i finally picked up a nice Amiga 3000 today.  18 Megs RAM, 2 HDD's #1=100MB #2=1GB.  I checked out and removed the battery inside it to avoid it leaking and causing damage, but overall it is a very solid running machine.  I have owned many Amiga's but I am happy to say that this is the first A3000 I have ever had and I am enjoying it very much.  The only thing wrong with it is that it is missing the Floppy drive button.  I was wondering if any1 had an extra one I might be able to get from them.  Thanks

Congratulations!
Guess what, I've just brought home A3000, too :) Got it from the place where it shared the room with three cats and a dog for two or three years. You may imagine what it was like inside.
It also had a leaked NiCd battery, I've cut that away immediately. Also has an odd memory expansion module, like a small PCB with two 30-pin SIMMs plugged into main board where ZIP memory should be.
This is the first Amiga with scandoubler I now own, man its VGA output is awesome!

Yes i must admit the built in VGA rocks and I am very excited about it.  First I'm gonna get rid of the WB2 and put on a newer version.  Also have a SCSI CD-ROM external with it, but need to find a SCSI cable, I think I may have one somewhere:)  Congrats on bringing home yours also, let me know how it looks from all those cats :)

I wish I could find my original 1.4 ROMs.  I'd like to see if I can run OS4 with them.  I'm not using 3.x anymore anyway.  I may need to plug in the KickFlash and load 3.1, we'll see...
Plus, I'd like to load up OS1.4 again just to get some pictures so people will believe me.

Pretty similar, except that mine seems to be handmade (yellow one side PCB and a bit of wires on top of it).

amigakid, it took me almost an hour to disassemble and vacuum clean the thing. It was pretty furry inside :)

Congratulations on getting your A3000! I had one of them a few years back, one of my all time favourite computers. The only gripe I ever had was that it's a little tricky fitting CPU cards inside the cramped case. But in general it's one of the greatest Amigas you can have.

Yeah I am really enjoying it.  It was nice to have the VGA connector on the back, as I have plenty of extra VGA monitors and have hooked one up to it.  It's a great machine and I will do more experimenting with it:)

Out of all the computers I have owned in my life (about 16 machines personally, about 40+ if I count my business machines) The A3000 has been my favorite. Even to this day, it the A3000 just seems so fast!

I have recently upgraded my A4000 Tower with a Picasso II card and some other goodies, and I actually like using my A3000 tower more! (Of course, it has a 40 Mhz Warp Engine, that might have something to do with it!)

Go A3000! Commodores best machine!

I have to agree the A3000 was my favorite Amiga. I have a A4000T 060 but have not spent much time with her. We haven't bonded yet. My old A3000 had three hard drives crammed into her. Two double stacked behind the floppy and one in the second floppy bay. She ran for years that way till one day as I was going to show her off to a friend... green screen. I have another A3000 but its not my baby. I've fell to the dark side of windows and now surround myself with Amiga memorabilia   and recall the fun of yesterday. My fondest Amiga memories are with the A3000.

Congrats ....

I've had my A3k since new (1991 I think).
Payed somthing over $3000 for it.

Its still running great with a WarpEngine
and CV 64 GFX card. 2 HD floppies and an
external CD Rom & harddrive case rinning
with OS 3.9.
I doubt I'll ever let it go. I've had other
Amigas, (A500, A2000, & A1000). The A3k is
my favorate.

Long Live Amiga

I must be the only Amigan who totally dislikes the A3000. THE VGA port is nice, but only because it has Simultaneous RGB output for genlocks and such. But I dislike the way the kickstart works and its darn heavy.

I got one for sale if anyone wants it ($120). its got 2mb chip and about 12mb FAST, 68030, 1 floppy and a small SCSI HD and a battery thats about to leak or has leaked but no damage yet.
I am in NYC  I would consider trades or partial trades with cash if you got something I want.

THings I am looking for:

DCTV Y/C S-video version
SUPER Promt (Teleprompt software from Innovision)
ImageVision (SCALA type program)
VideoFX (From ClassX/Haage and Partner?)
Delfina Sound card
Quaddddra port
Graffiti gfx card
A600 accelerator (any)
A600 Motherboard Rev 2B

most on this list would probably be Partial trade and cash. But ask me.

CD32 is actually the best Amiga ever made by Commodore!...
