Lightwave 3D V4 or 5
« on: February 06, 2008, 10:17:03 PM »
I have both a video toaster and a video toaster 4000. I know that they came with some version of lightwave, so I assume that I have some sort of license for Lightwave 3d. I was able to get V3.5 from tosec??? and it works just fine. I have been looking for a later version, i think the last was 5.2??? I did find a "cracked" copy of 5.0 (again from tosec i think?) - and it works fine, but. I would like to have the full version, so I can do a proper hard drive install and have all the sample scenes and objects.

Thanks for any feedback.

I've heard 5.0 is the last Amiga version. I've also read that NewTek still sells the Toaster/Flyer 4.3 CD that has 5.0 on it. Give them a call.

LightWave 5.0 was the last official release for the Amiga.  Version 3.5 came on seven disks and included most of the Objects, Textures and Scenes included with the later editions (v4 and v5). The Amiga required a parallel port dongle to run the registered software. I had to trade mine in for the pc kit when I migrated a few years back. I still run my WaveGuide Site dedicated to the Amiga version. Check it out.

Hope I'm not nagging... Still looking for a full install of any version of lightwave 4.0 or better. Maybe someone could zip up the install directory from the video toaster install cd???

No, but you can buy it from NewTek for $50. Call them.

Just to tell you the absolutely last version of Lightwave for Amigas was 5.7, which was a free update from 5.5!

I believe this version (5.7) is lost forever, I wish there was someone still out there that could have it, and of course share it!

Proof of existance:
use the web time machine called www.archive.org, and search www.newtek.com site in its firsts years, you will see under some software support link, the actual 5.7 update!

A bit off-topic: I seem to remember reading somewhere, that the latest Amiga version(s) were slower than previous ones, because all assembly routines where replaced by C. I'm not sure about this.

Gulliver, you could ask NewTek that question.

I've got the 5.0 Amiga version in the box.  I really bought it for its 2 thick manuals, because I've also got the 4.2 CD.  I've got a Toaster in one of my 2000s.  Where can I find updates to LW 5.0?  On the Toaster CD?  Somewhere else?

Step 1. Go to your garage and find a crow bar, or tire iron.

Step 2. Use crow bar, or tire iron to pry your wallet from your pocket.

Step 3. Pull out a credit card that has at least $50 balance available.

Setp 4. Call NewTek and order the Toaster/Flyer 4.3 CD and Floppy disk.

This will give you version 5.0 full install, as others have told you.  Enjoy! :-D
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)
