Amiga 4.0

If PPC boards are no longer made, is there anything that can be done to update a 4000 Tower that will allow the use of amiga 4.0?

Is the problem that when 4.0 was in the works, PPC cards were the wave of the future and then they just died out? I don't remember why they went PPC only.

PPC was a logical way to go due to it being Motorola processors and claimed to be rather compatible with the 68k series (or at least, it would be easy to emulate).

The reason the PPC no longer is available is that PhaseV rolled over and died (only to re-incarnate as bPlan ;-)). Sure, DCE had a go at it but by then, the Amiga market was already really really small. Eyetech had encountered that as well, resulting in a not enough sold / produced Amiga-ones.

Get a SAM, while you can! The new AMIGA is here!

PPC cards were already dead before hyperion took over OS4.0. The A1 was the target platform.

From the comments made on this thread, it appears that nothing can be done to upgrade a 4000 tower to run OS 4 other then look for used hardware and hope it works.

Yup. It's a waste of time anyhow.

Unless you can get it to work on a PPC mini-mac...

Still a waste of time for most Amiga enthusiasts.
