The burning question about OS4...
« on: July 23, 2003, 08:53:26 PM »
Will the Topaz font still be needed? :-)

In other news, I wonder how long it'll take for MS to completely weed out the "MS Sans Serif" font out of Windows :-)

*a* topaz font, that is 8x8, will always be needed, since some programs fail when it is not there. Sure those programs are usually ugly, but a few of them are still handy.

I must say that I like one of the topaz fonts, it's Topaz6..
Try it and see for yourselves.. it's not that shabby, really :)

These are interesting times we live in. New machines in progress, new AmigaOS in progress.. userbase slowly, slowly growing..  which is a success in itself.

not exactly, however, there are still a lot of programs that want to open a size 8 'topaz.font' - they wont be happy if one doesnt exist - and some could crash the machine

there is nothing wrong with having one extra bitmap font on your hard drive! you dont have to use it :)

Just wondering whether there's still going to be a phantom legacy font issue cropping up from time to time in the workbench setup.

What wrong with the Topaz font?  ;-)
Don´t you know that a Real Amiga should not use higher screens than 640x256? :-)
topaz 8 is part of the amigalook, i like it on low res screens.
Apple did it right the first time, bring back the Newton!

You should see topaz 8 on my screen when I'm working at the top resolution of my monitor. Its those times when you realise Lupe is more than a toy :-D

AARGH! Topaz!!  :destroy:
I hate it, first thing I change on a new AmigaOS install, bugger that it can't be totally removed.

I think the more burning questions are:
When will OS4 Actually be released?
How come its taken about 2 years longer than they promised (adding another couple of months every couple of months)?
Good judgement comes from experience.  Experience comes from bad judgement.
