Ordering from SoftwareHut (USA)
« on: January 14, 2008, 05:45:12 PM »
I would like to order some products from SoftwareHut (they told me that they have some in stock), but I want to know if they are ok. Any info would be appreciated.

I have ordered a couple things from SoftwareHut and have been pleased with the service.  Joe has answered my questions in a timely fashion.  I am prolly going to be ordering something else from him.

If they said they have it in stock, you are probably ok. AFAIK they don't keep too much stock on hand any more, so it is good to check before hand.

From your location, wouldn't you be better off buying from AmigaKit?

My first option is AmigaKit (I'm very satisfied with Matthew), but if they don't have something that I want, I must look somewhere else. That's why I'm asking. Thanks in advance.

When I bought an A1200 with a bad floppy drive in it (the old Commodore one), I called on SoftwareHut and they helped me right away. They gave me great service and I really think for a service organization they are pretty cool.

I've never had a problem ordering from them, but as previously stated, it would be a good idea to contact them first to confirm items are in stock.  Their web site is very outdated for what they actually have in inventory.

I've placed several orders with Software Hut and never had a problem.  My last order was for a Cybervision 64-3D Zorro graphics card and everything arrived quickly, well packaged and in full working order.

I've just given up on Amigakit.  I ordered from them once with no problem, but every time I ask a question in the forums I get ignored.  Finally, I sent them an email asking for some product advice to make an order and I've been ignored for a week and a half.  Balls to them, I've ordered some hardware through Vesalia instead (and pre-ordered some too) as they reply quickly and politely to every question I've asked.

I think they've just become my #1 source for Amiga and C64/128 hardware and software.

SoftHut is alright... Joe seems like a nice guy, sometimes you may not get email response, but (in my experience) they're honest.

Well I'm glad to know that I'm just paranoid then (should I be glad about that?).   :-)

The last question I had was sent via your "contact us" on your website almost 2 weeks ago.  It was regarding a hardware solution for writing back C64 data to 5.25" disks from *.d64 files.  I didn't know whether you had a solution to write from a PC or Amiga to either a PC 5.25" FDD using something like a Catweasel or to an actual CBM 1571 drive using a custom cable.  In the end, I ordered a couple of cables from Versalia and pre-ordered the MMC Replay cartridge.

I can't remember what I asked about in the forums.  Probably related to expanding my big-box Amigas.

Cheers for the reply.

I cannot recall seeing that email (we were on Christmas/New Year Holidays a fortnight ago though)- I will search through our emails.
