mediator issues AGGHHH!
« on: January 14, 2008, 01:40:17 AM »
Well, I got easynet from amigakit, and it looks really cool.  Installed and configured easy.  But it doesn't work, because I keep getting an open device error on the fastethernet.device.
Also, when I try to run medication it tells me no PCI devices detected.
At the very least the board is working as a ZIII pass through, since my picasso IV and AD516 are working fine..... how can I tell what's wrong.  I don't have net access with the amiga since I don't have easynet working yet... so if there is a program I need to download and try I have to download it with my mac and burn a CD.
Any help would be appriciated.... I have spent so much money and come so far.... I feel like I am close to having a working Amiga system... AGGHHHHH!

You need to have a PCI video card installed to use fast ethernet.  Please post your complete configuration and someone can probably help pinpoint the problem.

BTW, where in CA are you?
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

Hi,
I do have PCI cards installed.  Easynet from Amigakit comes with a PCI 100/10 ethernet card.
So my complete config is a little extensive, but here are the basics.
Amiga 3000 housed in a Elbox mirage 3000D tower.
Warp engine 3040
32 megs fast ram, 2 megs chip ram
Using the warp fast scsi controller which is hooked up to 2 hard drives and CD burner.
I have the mediator installed.  I have pulled most of cards out trying to pin point the problem.  So currently I have in the mediator:
#1 the mediator's own bus board card thing, whatever.
#2 the PCI ethernet card
#3 voodoo 3000.  (only installed because someone told me it had to be there for the fast ethernet to work... something about memory.  I would love to take it out if it's not needed).
#4 ATI wonder TV card
#5 AD516 sunrise sound card
#6 Picasso IV video card (using picasso 96 software and currently using it as the primary video delivery system for the whole system.)

I have OS 3.9 installed.  Umm..... I am probably forgetting something important, but this is what I can think of right now.

** what part of California am I in?  I live in Vacaville California.  Which is half way between San Francisco and Sacramento.**

Thanks for the help ahead of time.
-Dan

What does PCIInfo give you? And have you set up the variables for the Mediator?

Also, I don't know if this means anything, but everytime I boot, it gives me a message that it can't open the mixer.library
I think that is something that came with the mediator.  There is a program in prefs called mixer and when I try to launch it, it tells me it can't open that library.
Again I don't know if that has anything to do with anything, but I thought I would mention it.
Thanks,
Dan

Get P96Manager and use it instead of Medication. It handles all necessary P96+Voodoo variables and tooltypes, inlcuding overclocking.

Also i have in my setup in Mediator LT4:

#1: Voodoo 3 3000
#2: (empty PCI clot)
#3: sound card
#4: fast-ethernet card

Have you checked you have a network card that's compatible with fastethernet.device?

Also for the sound download GhostMix, make a directory in ENVARC:Mediator called "Mixer", install GhostMix, adjust its preferences, SAVE & reboot.

I presume you have installed the sound driver already.

From what I can see you don't have a soundcard installed on mediator so, it's normal that it can't open the mixer. Go to c: and run the pciinfo command and tell us what it gives. Then we may find out something usefull about your problem. Also, make sure you run medconfig, it should be installed from the mediator cd.

if it was a mui issue, the mixer would've crashed, at least that's what happened to me. It's clear form his details that he doesn't have a soundcard on mediator that's why the mixer.library can't be opened.

Not necessary, I had the same problem last week and I had a sound card fitted, unable to open mixer library can be caused by the config jumper being set wrong on the mediator!

yeah, that could be the problem as well, but as he doesn't have a soundcard anyway he'd still get the same msg if the jumper was set correctly. If the jumper is set wrong it'd be the reason why nothing on his mediator works, we'll have to see what pciinfo reports and medconfig.txt output would be usefull as well.
