Remapping the JUMP button for WHDLoad-installed games
« on: January 12, 2008, 01:00:07 PM »
Hello everyone!

I'm a happy Amiga user since 1990, and I am at it again with my A1200 being powered with some fast ram for WHDLoad for my gaming times.
The thing is, I got somewhat comfortable with having a jump button on the best pad I've ever known, the Snes pad, instead of having tu push up to jump in those, otherwise great, A500 games.
Do you know if there's some utility, os patch or startup-sequence loadable module to define buttons for WHDLoad games? I would like to assign the UP cross diection to a pad button, that's all.
I've searched the aminet, but no luck...any of you using Sega MegadRIVE pads with the AMIGA and being able to take advantage of the extra buttons with the old A500 games?

Thanks!

hm, why don't you just rewire it in hardware?
I doubt whdload can change games so much.

Some games have the option in WHDLoad to change the jump button in ToolTypes of the game icon. But those games are rare. I don't know if a remapping program in Workbench would work with WHDLoad. I guess not because WHDLoad reads directly from the hardware AFAIK...

Probably orange's option works best.

I think rewiring would  have some unpleasant side effects limiting the general usability of the controller.

Try finding the CD32 versions of games. At least some - Superfrog, for one - are written with a dedicated jump button rather than using 'Up'.

I have already got those cd32 versions of Super Frog and others, but there are a lot of great games (Shadow Of The Beast comes to mind) that don't have a CD32 version.
As for winring...well, that's a good idea, Orange, but I don't feel like opening the Genesis pad and soldering on it...
If there's no software button remapping solution, then it's OK: i'll get used somehow. (Harlekin is unplayable, anyway)

Thanks for the ideas, guys!

Just request it from the slave author.  There is no standard way to remap the keys in all games.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(
