OS4 cd rom
« on: January 11, 2008, 03:17:36 PM »
Ive got my csppc back from JJ B in France and alls working :-D
I have already partitioned the hard disk and installed OS3.9. Alls ok there.

Now in order to install OS4 I need a cdrom connected to the mobo ide port as my other cdrom is connected to the fastlane.

My cdrom on the ide port is set as master on the drive itself and is on the master plug of the ide cable but the machine will not boot at all.

With nothing plugged into the ide port i can boot into OS3.9 :-?

The cd rom works OK

I'm now stuck as to what to do

Is your harddrive connected to the IDE as well?  If so, check the jumper settings on it to make sure they're set properly.  Also, I seem to recall having troubles with my A4000 having the CD as master and the HD as slave.  No problems the other way around though.

When you say it won't boot with the CD drive connected, do you mean it won't boot to OS3.9, or you can't get OS4 to boot? Or both? Can you get to Early Startup? Can you boot from floppy?

So what happens with the CD-ROM connected when you try to boot? Do you just get the Kickstart screen? And can you boot from a floppy with the CD-ROM connected?

Well I've just checked and I can boot from the HDD on my CSPPC with the CDrom on the 1st IDE lead position set as Master OR with the CDrom on the 2nd IDE lead position set as Slave.

But to boot into OS4 BootFloppy & OS4 CD, the CDrom drive must be on the 1st IDE lead position and set as Master.

(If the CDrom drive is on 2nd IDE lead position and correctly set as Slave, I get "Please insert volume AmigaOS 4.0 Install CD in any drive" when booting into BootFloppy & OS4 CD)

Well there is going to be a boot delay while the miggy looks at the motherboard IDE port for a bootable drive.

Also if you are running an rtg system where you cant see the AGA output (no scan doubler/15khz monitor etc) you may not be able to see 3.9 failing to mount the old mountlist for the SCSI CD and bringing up a window on the AGA output.

Another option is you have a dead CD/DVD drive or its set up wrong (The jumper must be set to master) or has a faulty cable.

Ive just managed to get a Kickstart screen with the cdrom connected BUT my os3.9 harddrive IS connected and should have booted from that.

Ok thanks guys, it looks like I'm going to have to try another cd drive.
