Blizzard 1230 Mk IV ans SCSI controller
« on: December 30, 2007, 06:41:47 PM »
hi all,

I recently bought a a1200 with Blizzard 1230 Mk IV ans SCSI controller as a completer set. However the original software from the accelerator was not included.
I found software on an amiga website together with it's manual. The board is installed correctly an seems to work fine. I installed the software using winuae and placed the hdd back into the a1200. When I now try to run the scsi config tools a message appears that the software cannot find ascsi device v7 or higher. I have an external scsi cdrom and harddrive connected and terminated (passive) , but both aren´t detected.

i'm not in to scsi so it might be that I did something wrong but I can't figure out what that is.

An help please.

Thanks

Roger

I got issues with that, i'd go into "Devs" and click once on "CD0" if I remember rightly and on the menubar go into "Properties", what info does it display?

hi tokyoracer,

I did the following:
Checked in devs if there is a cd0, none.
Checked in c:scsi-tools, there is cd0.
Clicked one, menubar-information.

displays lots of information.

Edit:

Found it in storage:

information:
activate=1
device=scsi.device
unit=2

To partition and prepare the hard disk, you have to run HDtoolbox from command line with the correct device as argument, i.e.: "hdtoolbox 1230scsi.device".

To be able to use the CD-ROM, you'll have to install and configure a CD filesystem, like AmiCDFS from Aminet.
EDIT: (assuming you have OS 3.0 or 3.1 installed)

Activate=1 means TRUE i.e. it IS working (or supposed to)...
Device= means whatever ".device" is to control it...
Unit=2 means that it is the 2nd LOGICAL device on that controller (device) i.e. the one with its SCSI ID set at 2 on the little wheel/piano arrangement that identifies it in that SCSI chain.

Oh, and I take it that they are all tooltypes in the icon, what does it say in the DOSDriver file itself?

(P.S. I am currently 3 sheets to the wind on Drambuie, so maybe you should rely on somebody else's advice.)
:)

In this case, "1230scsi.device".

The blizzard software installs amicdfs automatically. I haven't tried the cli command. Will try this now.

Does this mean i have to change the "icon" properties?

Yes.

EDIT: You probably have to change the "UNIT" value aswell. This is the SCSI id the CD-ROM is jumpered to.

Done that,

The scsi tools that i downloaded, now detect the cdplayer and harddrive. So that seems to work fine, I can eject a cd from within this software.

1 question remains and that is how to mount a cd. amicdfs has been installed, but I don't now how to continue or what to expect when to insert a cd.

Thanks for the help sofar!

And we are back...

I installed the MKIV in my A1200D. It worked fine. I haven't touched the amiga for a week an when i just wanted to boot it, I got a little suprise. I doesn't detect the scsi board anymore. AOS3.9 says that it can't find device scsi1230.device. Emergency bootdisk does the same. I can no longer see my scsi hd when I hold down the 2 mouse buttons.

The OS does detect 64MB of RAM (2x32 installed) And I have no strange issue when running OS3.9. I installed the board in another a1200 (spare) and got it working one time only. after a reboot it doesn't do much any more.

Is the scsi card defect or am I missing something?

 Check carefully the SCSI chain for bad connections and terminations (specially loose pins and connectors).

 Re-check the HD for abnormal operation.
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.
