Pegasos Set Top Box info
« on: July 20, 2003, 12:42:46 AM »
Just wondering if any one here knows any info about the Pegasos STB's that are to be comming out soon.  Has anyone heard any technical specs, price, and/or what OS or OSes it will run?  Actual size of the machine would be cool to know too.

Thanks in advance,

AmigaGuy

A3000D (16mhz, 2MB Chip, 4MB Fast, SCSI (300+MB), SuperGen Genlock, Kick 3.1)
Back in my day, we didn\'t have water. We only had Oxygen and Hydrogen, and we\'d just have to shove them together.

All I know is that it will use a PowerPC 405 processor (@266Mhz?) designed for embedded applications.  Should offer somewhat better performance than the 604e found on CyberStorm PPC cards.  No other details have been announced yet afaik.  It will run MorphOS, and it will be around the same size as a slimline DVD player.

It's all well and good having this nice bit of kit to devlop for, but Pace are the undisputed king of STB's in the UK.  I don't know about the rest of the world, but it'll be hard work getting Sky/NTL/Telewest etc to switch to Peg STB's.  I don't envy Genesi's work load!

I have a Sagem here. A real piece of junk, thait's for sure. It crashes 2-3 times a week in a way that I have to pull the plug in order to restart it. I have even installed one of these remote controls (that you can use for any lamp/other gadget that connects to a common power plug in the wall) in order to restart it without rising from the sofa!  :-o  :-(
MorphOS is Amiga done right! :)

Who the f*ck are Sagem?  Cheap Korean/Taiwanese crap?

On that note, I opened up one of those Bush Internet TV STB's the other day, it had a 4MB SIMM on an ARM based board running PACE RISC-OS from 2 ROM's.  Who said Acorn were dead? :-D

I've seen their mobiles. Nasty looking things that only pay-as-you-go users have! ;-)
