(unsure where to post) Help with CPU - PC Related.
« on: December 13, 2007, 03:04:36 AM »
I was thinking of upgrading the old M$ CrudBox (PC) I got and found a good deal for a CPU but it's over in America Land and I live in the United Kingdom.
My question is quite simple really, will this CPU work perfectly fine once recived or will there be any issues with power and / or compatablility?

Thanks for looking.

P.s. Don't worry about asking about if I am getting the right one, I have made sure it's the one I need and I know what one to go for.

Depends on the motherboard in your current system.  It might work.

Just the actual CPU? It should work just fine, PSU difference won't affect CPU core voltage.

Depends if you getting a Dual Core or Quad core and if your MB can support it. Also is your MB for AMD or Intel and which Brand of CPU are you getting (AMD or INTEL)?

What Socket MB have you got and what Socket CPU have you ordered?

Also with the Quad's you will need a Heavy PSU (700+) depending on what your running and if you use the NVidia MB then you need a Good 850+ (Enermax or the like).

Considering all the CPUs come from the same very same fab lines before being delivered all around the world, the answer must be: Yes it will work perfectly fine, no there can't possibly be any power or compatibility issues.

It's just a single core old 462 socket.

Here is what will fit in the socket (thanks to wikipedia):
AMD Athlon (650 MHz - 1400 MHz)
AMD Athlon XP (1500+ - 3200+)
AMD Duron (600 MHz - 1800 MHz)
AMD Sempron (2000+ - 3300+)
AMD Athlon MP (1000 MHz - 3000+)
AMD Geode NX (667 MHz - 2200 MHz)

Anything else will need a new motherboard.  Also, you will need to check with who made your motherboard (eg asus) to see if the chip is supported.  May need a bios update for some, while others will not be supported.

Not sure what you mean.  If you mean, will it work using WInUAE, or something else, it will work fine.

The CPUs are the same, regardless of the continent.

Like it has been pointed out already: The only problems might arise from specific motherboard chipset or BIOS incompatibilities.

Power supplies are the only thing that would deal with different voltages and and if the power supply was made in the last decade or so it will be multi-voltage.  CHIPs voltages don't change by continent.
