AmigaOS 4 works on every classic PPC hardware additional

Does it work with Amiga 2000 PPC cards?

Yes, I know that they weren't really "released" (but some people have prototypes) and I'm not really blaming anyone if it doesn't work.

But (trying to) run OS4 on such harwdare would be way too crazy thing to NOT do it, you know :-)

The screenshot which A4000_Mad posted is beautiful, but noone noticed that only 400KB of free chip-ram is left? This is practically unusable! I always assumed that the functionality of FBlit was intergrated into the OS4. I guess not... :-/

Does OS4  need much chipmen in the same way as os3.9 and earlier .  Is the OS not built to use ram on the accelerator instead.

AGA screenmodes are generated by the custom chips, which only have access to Chip RAM.

Correct. GFX card screenmodes utilise the memory on the GFX card, not chip RAM.

like with AOS3.x, ChipRam is not used (or very few bites) on a RTG equipped Amiga.

And as very little games and things will run that need chipram  it shoulddnt be a problem.

Stuff ported to OS4 will obviously not use it at all as it runs on OS4 as well ?

Will everyhting that runs an A1 potentially run on OS4 classic

@ AmigaMance

Thanks for the comment about my screengrabs :pint:

Note that I had used a program called CyberGrab to put a 400K ILBM image in RAM prior to copying it to my Zip 100 to take it elsewhere for conversion to PNG. I would say that the actual amount of chip RAM available before starting any programs would be nearly 800K.

EDIT - With the AmigaOS4 backdrop disabled in WBPattern, this goes up to over 1.2 MB :-)

Depends on the port. If it is ported to run on an AGA screenmode then it will still use chip RAM. But if it is written to open on an RTG screen then it will use fast RAM. The rules on RAM usage are the same in OS4 are the same as they are in every other version of Amiga OS.

But as im guessing neraly everything ported to OS4 was donee on an A1 and not with classic in mind then there should be very few progs like this

I'm sure you have heard of FBlit before, haven't you? Classic OS users benefits from its function for more than a decade. A supposly much more advance OS like OS4 should have this feature intergraded.
