Minimig in a PSP case? It is possible

HELLO ALL

I have a little idea.
Make a miniboard of Minimig, buy some spare part of PSP (Case, battery, Button, PCB of button and LCD) and assembly all in a PSP case.
It is an eccentric idea? I don't know, but I think that it is possible.
One problem is the controller of LCD.
I think of use the ATMEGA128 but I need of write a software for ATMEGA128, but if there is a user that can write this, I can make the PCB.

If you have an FPGA I don't really see the need for any MCU (ATMEGA128) controlling the LCD (you mean TFT?), why would an MCU be needed ..?

I have even checked the possibility of driving DVI/HDMI or even raw tft LVDS directly from an FPGA. It's seem perfectly doable. It would rid the need for any resistor D/A.

I'd buy one! I have a dead PSP sitting around doing nothing (A gift from a friend who's son fried it by dropping it in a glass of milk).
I new I'd find a use for it. :-D

How expensive these spare parts are?  Wouldn't it be just cheaper to just buy a second hand PSP and rip it?

Yeah! You just have to hack it to run homebrewn applications.

How about buying one of these cheap Chinese tetris games that are in knock off PSP casing? Of course you needed to get an LCD display.

Other option would be to put the MiniMig into PSTwo (the smaller one) casing. You'd get a DVD reader too.

My dead psp cost me nothing & if I can use it as a case for a project I probably will, if it saves me buying a case then why not. I sure wouldn't spend money just to use the case however, that's just silly.

Why not just get yourself a gp2x :-D

Yep gp2x is a nice handheld but does it have enough horse power to give reasonable a500 emulation? Never tried one.

AFAIK it has just enough horsepower to run A500 games, but nothing more. anyway UAE has been ported to it and I've seen it mentioned quite often, so it must be useable. :-)

I actually had an idea about something similar. Not a real PSP, but a portable, battery operated device with built-in LCD. The basics would be to keep the compatibility with the original Minimig. To reach that goal, following things would be required for the design:

* 4-layer board (to bring the size down)
* Try to find a single memory chip solution
* Add a voltage converter and charger unit for LiPo-batteries
* Use a analog input TFT (RGB or S-video)
* Add a headphone amp with volume control
* Allow connection of external TV, joystick and power
* Built-in keypad that emulates one of the sticks (the mouse/keyboard will be a hard part to fix)

The ultimate would be to eliminate the MC68SEC000 entirely (replacing it with the open source softcore), but then we are talking about BGA packaged FPGAs (I think) and we have a unit that can't be hand built.
