WB 3.1 Boot Disc

I have wb 3.1 only on adf files . How do I make a real boot disk from these files? I will have to get some sort of boot disc in order to reinstall every thing on to my 4000. Can my 4000 boot from a pc 720kb disk?

No, it can only read the disk through CrossDOS which is ran from Workbench on startup

You would need to put it onto an Amiga formatted disk as far as I know.

You will need an OS on the Amiga to transfer the ADF to a real disk, but if you have no OS you are SOL.  You need to get the ADF to a read disk before you can use it on the Amiga. A real dilema I am afraid.

Option 1:  Buy a Catweasel controller for the PC to write ADF's to disk.  $100+ if you can find the ISA/PCI card.

Option 2:  Have someone write the ADF to disk for you.

Option 3:  Purchase a set of disk from someone or vender.

If you have a hard disk, you can format it for the Amiga on your PeeCee and boot the Amiga from it.  I have done this before.  There's a certain partitioning tool you need for the peecee.  But, maybe you can do it right from UAE, I haven't tried it.
You *can* boot your Amiga without a boot disk, the OS is in ROM!  But, that wouldn't do you any good as you still wouldn't be able to read a peecee disk.  The amount of OS in ROM is very small.

I recommend buying OS3.1 from an Amiga vendor, there are copies of this waiting to be bought.  And then, make a whole bunch of backups of the Install disk.  You can't survive a hard drive crash without at least that.

I just got the adf files converted onto my pc. I opened them up in emulation and then copied them over into separate foldes to represent each floppy.

If I put them on a cd would it be possible to boot my 4000 from a cd or load the OS from the files on the cd?

It sounds like you may still need someone to write out the adf's to a real amiga floppy. The CD driver won't be available on boot-up, unless by chance you have a SCSI interface that has its' driver in ROM... such as my 1230 SCSI module... then you can boot from it via Early Startup Control.

@AMC258: IIRC, the OS is not in ROM, the ROM only has Topaz font, essential commands like Execute, SetPatch, Assign, self-test, etc. More of a kernal than an OS... IMHO, without a bootdisk or a bootable HDD, you are stuck....

Ok I gave you this advice before: install OS3.1 in Winuae on your HD. That way you have a fully booting HD which you can use in your Amiga again.

If you copy the adf files onto your HD and some tools to write them back to disk (look on Aminet for some tools like adfblitzer or adf2disk). Then you can use your real Amiga to write the adfs to disk.

OK, this is getting crazy. I have a spare HD, hooked it to my PC but..  It does not show up in WinUAE but shows up in WB. Tried to format it but it just gives me the error of no disk in drive?? I even added it manually in WinUAE by adding the path and making sure it is read/write and still cant format it. Here are the versions I am using...

WinUAE 0.8.8, Release 8
Amiga Forever version 4
WB 3.1

Do I need the new version of WinUAE and is it even compatible with my older version of Cloanto? I have tried to format within WB about 5 or 6 times with the same error.
