Trying to get my forum going...
« on: December 09, 2007, 04:03:50 PM »
I built my own site a few months ago, which includes all the classic computers and game machines of the late 70s, 80s and 90s, but cannot seem to get the Discussion Board, going.

I would really appreciate anyone to make the odd post. I am not here to take away from Amiga.org, and am somewhat hesitant to post this message here, but I do feel I offer significant enough Amiga content to be a welcome addition to the Amiga community.

I started off as an Amiga only site, but then realised that what excited me most about the Amiga is how much more advanced it was from the Vic-20 and C64 that I had at the time. I still have fond memories of making my Vic task switch between various applications on a 20K machine. This is when I branched out to include all machines that helped shape our youth.

The recent article in CNN convinced me that I need to spend more time trying to get my site out there. I think my concept is good and it is free -- I don't even seek donations :)

The site is VintageGameSite.com

Thanks so much for your time,
Simon

Sorry.  I couldn't find the forum the first time I looked.  If I were you I'd have a giant graphic link for it at the top of the main page or something.

Certainly something to think about. It's kind of hidden under Resources :(

I agree with AMC258: the forum is _very_ hard to find if you want it to be actively used by visitors. Because I knew it should be somewhere, I was able to locate it. The occasional visitor will not find it.

I understand the trouble of 'starting up' your site, though. I do have my own site, which took me quite some time to construct and the amount of visitors is still low. No problem though, as it is not really meant to be a big hit: it's a hobby and getting more hits is something for the future. I do have forumsoftware installed on my site, but I don't expect it will ever become really active (small targetaudience).
Life sucks. Then you die. Then they throw mud in your face. Then you get eaten by worms. Be happy it happens in that order... My Amiga 1200

Please try again. I believe I have the problem fixed now.

That would explain why no one has been posting. * was disallowing all user names!

... and if you did not find the issue, I'd be scratching my head for a long time. I felt I had a good site and could not figure out why I did not have any regular users by now.

I would be very greatful if you could make the odd post now and then to encourage people to start using the forum.

Is this software in the right place? (Vintage and Classic Hardware forum)

and these hardware items are they in the right place? (Vintage and Classic Software forum)

I find it a little confusing having two categories with the same title... (Buy, Sell and Trade) even if they are in different groups.

Other than that, make the link to the forum a LOT more obvious. ;-) I wish you well.

I think the deal with sites and forums is that they all seem to be plastered on the front page in some form or other (latest posts usually). I went to your site just now and what I saw was a giant bunch of intro text that I'm never going to read and it took me a while to figure out that there were links to things above it.

I have a lot of games on the site for ZX SPectrum, but don't have a hardware profile. If you would like to write a description of the ZX, I'll add a picture and a hardware profile to the site. Sound like a plan?
