a4000 ethernet

Hi all,
  i want to get my 4000 on the internet can i use ethernet? if so what will i need?

Hmmmmm - last time I looked you could as well go and buy (provided enough money in the purse) an Mediator PCI busboard and stick a PCI 10/100mBit NIC in.

This has the advantage that you can use other inexpensive PCI cards like soundcard, grapics card, TV-card and USB2.0 highspeed-card as well...

You can also get an USB card (Algor, Highway or soon Deneb) and use an USB to Ethernet adapter. It is well supported and works much faster than X-Surf.

Or just get an Ariadne on eBay if you can find one. Mine's still going strong.... and has been very reliable.

Hmm. On a similar note I'm trying to get my A4k back up and running on a network - installed OS3.9 with Genesis via WINUAE (had to put some other files on the hd then install once the HD was put back into the real Amiga)

showconfig indicated the card is there

ariadneinfo (forget the author - sorry!) shows the card is istalled

Got ariadne_ii.device in correct place, Geneis Wizard worked ok, Genesis goes online, connect light shows when cat5 is plugged into the card, but....nada. I am trying this at work, not home where it worked before (home is simply a router, and I used a static IP - no problem NOTE I have not taken this machine back home to try it since the new install)

Here at work we have an NT box acting as domain controller, DHCP (which I could NEVER get to work on the Amiga). Entered the LAN gateway IP and the two DNS servers our ISP said to use (ran ipconfig/all on my XP box to verify the info). I have also tried a static IP. It not only can't ping anything on the LAN, it can not see external addresses, either.

Ideas or thoughts?

UPDATE: My corporate LAN has a netmask of 255.255.0.0 - Genesis doesn't like that, and reverts to the default. I'm not a network expert. Would that affect it ?

Someone told me you could fit a PCMCIA connector to a 4000. Not sure. Shame it didn`t come as standard. My A1200 has a PCMCIA ethernet which other than the reset issue works like magic.

I use Miami and could only use broadband with IP, Netmask and Gateway set to DHCP. Multicasts is diabled.. Then in the Interface TCP/IP settings set TCP/IP to use ICMP and enable DHCP. The poor thing never resolves IP addresses but still goes hammering through the BTHomehub onto the net.

i dont know but i think the dhcp client does not work correctly...

3.9 updated to BB2?
did you check the config files (manually)? Maybe you have to type correct values there.

I have an "Amiganet" zorro card by hydra systems up for sale - its the bnc/rj45 connector version, in its original box complete with original floppy disk and manuals.  Comes with "hydranexus" software on the disk (as well as standard sanaII ? drivers).

Worked fine with genesis on workbench 3.9 in my A4000 (which I have now sold, hence why card available).

having the same problem with my a1200, genesis says alls well and is online but no actual connection

Hi

You may have put the interface online, but connecting through the router to broadband or the network generally is another matter. With Miami on the A1200 I have to first do the old card reset from an icon on my desktop. Then I fire up Miami and put either the ethernet card online on my network or fire up the other setting for broadband connection. I then run NMBD from a script I created so that that Amiga can be seen by other PCs on the network. Then I fire up YAM... I have two accounts. No problem with Samba which I configured myself. I have used Genesis but found it less configerable ( if that is a word ). As I said, Miami can never resolve the IP addresses with the BTHomeHub but ploughs through it on line. If Genesis can`t do that then you will have a problem.

The homehub network will not work with my own local intranet I can have one or the other. Not a problem as I say I have two settings for the interface. But to get through the hub I have to let the Amiga auto detect the IP route otherwise I just can`t get on line. Its that negotiation that is causing the problm here.
