WTB: Brilliance 2.0
« on: December 03, 2007, 03:38:37 AM »
Looking for Brilliance 2.0

New or used in good condition w/manuals. Never had the chance to use the app when it came out. Now I'd like to try it.

Any leads would be appreciated!

Thanks,
JasonMc

Just chiming in to say I've been messing about in Brilliance lately on my A4000, and it's a great application for AGA and ECS modes. No good at all for RTG stuff, of course, but that's what I have the free TV Paint for. Brilliance is really fast -- way faster than the later versions of DPaint. It's an excellent tool for bitmapped animations and images. I bought my copy of Brilliance from famous OpalPaint artist Asha Develder back in the early '90s and had the license switched over to me. She couldn't get into Brilliance, so it's not for everyone. I have a Brilliance promotional poster with Jim Sachs' Amiga lagoon image hanging in my computer room for inspiration.

I wish that programs like DPaint and Brilliance could be made freely distributable by their respective copyright holders, who so far as I know aren't making money on this stuff anymore. The TVPaint folks have the right idea by letting their old Amiga program be circulated for free.

Good luck finding your copy! I'd pounce on the eBay auction.

I have a boxed copy, with all (3) disks, manuals leaflets etc - except the registration document.  Guess it was registered by a previous owner?  I even have the poster order form as well - not that it will be much use now?  ;)

No sign of any registration number - although when I installed it to test out the disks it never asked for one?

Not sure on the normal price of these...?

Could have sworn any version of brilliance had a hardware dongle on it. At least the version I had had the hardware dongle.  :-)

I think they must have changed it at some point - to cut costs maybe?

My version has an A4 sheet entitled READ ME FIRST!.

It states that :-

"This package should contain:
Brilliance Disk #1
Brilliance Disk #2
Brilliance Disk #3
Brilliance User Manual (Version 1.0)
Brilliance Version 2.0 Addendum
Brilliance Version 2.0 Quick Reference Card
Brilliance Registration Card
This Contents sheet"

....so nothing about a dongle at all?

Theres also a section on the registration card that states "When filling out the registration card please note that you should ignore any request for serial number information since there is no longer a serial number associated with Brilliance."?

...which means I'm actually missing the quick reference chart too.   :-(

Anyhow, checked in the version 2.0 user guide ammendum and page 2 actually states that they have "eliminated the need for a hardware key" from version 1.0 after listening to registered owners comments.  They list a number of reasons for this, which I won't type out here.  :-D

Allright, thats clears things up.  :-)

Good to know there is a newer version.  But 1.0 worked really good.  :-D

@kd7ota

Brilliance first edition had a dongle........Brilliance 2.0 did not, and thats what was good about it despite it being more improved.

Brillliance is one of the best paint packages in the world....For Amiga.

CD32 is actually the best Amiga ever made by Commodore!...

@kd7ota

Yes, the early versions of Brilliance had a hardware dongle. The final version, 2.0, removed the need for the dongle.

As I may have mentioned, my partner Jim Meyer and I produced the manual for Brilliance.  I talked with Randy Jongens (Play/Digital Creation partner) and asked if the partners had any hardware or software about they didn't get rid of when they closed.  He mentioned checking on this.  If you see batches of new Digital/Play stuff on Ebay, they found the stash!

If you'd like to see what some Amiga developers are up to, Randy and Daniel Kay have a new product, Rocketlife.  You can check it out at rocketlife.com!

Brilliance was completed using early version of the Amiga 4000 as the test bed (I actually received my A4000 and monitor as part of the compensation for writing parts of the manual).

I've run Brilliance on my A4000 with 3.1 roms so it shouldn't be a rom issue.  Perhaps memory?  How much do you have on the 600?
