Bizarre CD32 floppy drive for sale on eBay
« on: November 25, 2007, 12:46:25 PM »
Whilst trawling through eBay I found this bizarre CD32 floppy drive which claims to turn it into an A1200.

So maybe someone will be interested and secondly does anyone know anything about it or is it custom made by Analogic computers who appear to be selling it.

We have these in stock (manufactured by Index)- need to get them listed on the webstore though.

Andy

I got the same, but with a different label on the top: Wallstreet Institute (School of English)

The label inside gives a hint:

CD32fWSI #D001127 Index Information Ltd. UK (REV 7)

These expansion were used here in Switzerland as English-teaching machines

What is the difference between this and an SX-1?  I have an SX-1 right now, but either it or the floppy drive I have with it are apparently buggy.  Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't, and instead of messing with it, I would like to just buy a replacement.  What would I be missing out on with this over an SX-1?

@ArchM

With the SX-1 you get a IDE adapter as well as the possibility to add fast ram.

Why isn't it black, to match the CD32?

Ran out of paint at the local B&Q? :-D

Does seem like a rather glaring oversight. Then again it also seems like a rather enormous brick for what amounts to a pass-through connector and floppy disk drive, most of whom's signals are already available on the CD32 expanion slot anyway.

I am sure if you remove the black Analogic Computers sticker you will see the Wallstreet logo.  ;-)

£40 is a bit expensive, but I am sure that I could make a very cheap fast-ram module for these things. To replace the real-time-clock that comes with it.

It'd still be good of you to do that since it should make a good template for any to work from making any other expansion.

Go on do it for fun ;)

I would like to see a PPC accelerator for the CD32 to run OS4.
...with a 750CL @ 973Mhz...
